So for starters: I get hay and straw mixed up, but why hasn't anyone mentioned using it(the stuff comes in a bale and is used as bedding, not food, can't seem to remember what is what)? I used hay (straw?) and it seems to work alright, but someone told me it can carry disease, has anyone heard...
Could this be used in a organic setting? Like if I want to consider my chicken's eggs organic, would this be OK? And does it hurt the snakes? I actually like them if they aren't killing any of my pets! They keep away little pests.
I have two buff orpingtons and a dominique who are my best little friends, two ameracaunas (I'm a bad speller forgive me if I mess up these breed names) who like to be held, but won't jump up themselves, one bantam ameracauna who isn't so sure about the handling but likes to follow me around...
It is directly on the nostrils, like if I could draw a circle around this little mesquito bite sized swelling, the nose holes would be in the center. Nothing else seems to be wrong with her, no swelling anywhere else, eating and acting normally. So strange, don't you think?
My one pullet (3 1/2 months has some swelling right where her nostrels are. I touched the area and she didn't seem bothered, it doesn't appear to hurt. Do you think she could have pecked a wasp or been bitten by a bug? Or could it be someting worse?
Thanks!
P.S.
I still haven't figured out the...
Hello!
I'm new myself, but I experienced similar trama when my day old chicks arrived. No one ever told me they have scabby little navels, so I was picking at that! Poor things, it had to hurt until someone finally explained what I as doing wrong. I felt pretty silly, and bad, but they don't...
Haha! Good one!
I would also like goats someday, but I don't know what breed to get. Are there goats that can be used for milk AND wool? And I would need a breed that would also make a nice pet (everything is a pet to me!). I know Tasha Tudor (so sad about her passing away) had nubians, but they...
First off, Miss Prissy your picture is cracking me up...
Second, how did you get him to be so sweet? My little sebright roo is only 3 months old and is already getting a little stand off-ish!
Lol! Thanks everyone! I feel much better. It's so hard to realize chickens are all different and each flock has it's own dynamic. So this is going to be a wait and see thing. My worry is always that I am doing something out right wrong, but from what I am reading here it's just too early to tell...
Darn, I knew that wouldn't work. Call it an experiment.
I just got done reading some articles about sexing silkies, and I am feeling discouraged. Most of those sites said even people familar with silkies can't always tell, they are the toughest to sex, and sometimes it takes 9 months to a year...
Aww, you should be a photographer! Great pics! Mine looks similar to yours, but he/she does not have a walnut shaped comb, he/she has more of a singular kind of comb. Otherwise he/she has all the sighns of being a silkie... fuzzy feet, furry looking all over, black skin, extra toes. Thanks for...
I'm not sure how to post pictures, but I wanted to ask people who have had silkies before....
My first flock of chicks (first ever) is now 3 months old. I ordered all pullets, and I know my sebright turned out to be a cockrel (huge comb and waddles, struts around and crows). I was hoping that...
I got my first chics two weeks ago, and I had one arrive nearly dead. She was the very smallest, a golden sebright and I was happy she pulled through. I thought we were out of the woods, but then I noticed her wing. As the others got two nice sets of wing feathers, I saw only one of her wings is...
