    Thanks so much for your help!!! She does get layer feed and I occasionally crush eggshells and give them back to them - I'll have to do this more often!

    No sign of shells...I felt around inside the vent and only pulled out more egg white. Here is the inside of the mass - it was baggy with fluid inside.

    Update, it was able to pull it out, and then a bunch of egg white came out after it. Any other tips about how to proceed?

    Thanks - I'll look into that! The more I read about prolapses it doesn't look or seem like that, and seems more and more likely an egg thing. I was just concerned about pulling out an organ or something, but it doesn't seem like there's anything there in chicken anatomy that looks like that...

    Wood chips for OUTSIDE the coop

    Thanks! I used all our fallen leaves for the last few months which has worked really nicely, but they are starting to break down and become muddy/poopy too. Debating between trying to find more leaves or wood chips.
