their first worms^
ive always got a buddy to get a nuse around the trapped critters neck and depending on how big it is, i would just wack it really hard with a 2x4. sounds cruel, but its a very quick death if you hit hard enough. other times, my buddys dad got his .22. 1 shot behing the ear.
incase your not from florida or anywhere else tropical-ish, water moccasins (how ever they are spelt) or cotton mouths are supposed to be one of the most aggressive and venemous snakes. and ive seen one around my coop twice. anyone have any tricks or tips on how to keep the snakes away?
take a 2x4 and drill a 1 1/2 inch - 2 inch hole in it, put 5 nails at an angle so that they can be seen in the hole and make them cometogether to about an inch, then dig a small hole the same sice as the one in the 2x4, about 5 to 6 inches deep, and put some hotdogs in the hole. put the 2x4 over...
my baby serama has a problem with her foot. he her, not sure wich one it is, but its right foot, the very right toe, tallon, whatever you want to call it, folds up underneath the rest of the foot when it walks. it doesnt seem to bother it, but, it may be an issue when its older and the foot...
Thanks! adn yea i was pretty proud of the tracks when i made them. i just took a sponge that my mom uses for washing dishes and cut it into the shape of chicken feet and "walked" all around the coop with it
i dont have a lot of space, and im young (16) and dont have a job yet, so i made mine cheaply but maximized my little space. not to mention i paid for the lumber and hardware in coins that id saved
the coop
when im home i let them out the back door
then they have room to run and chase bugs...
if i take away some or all of my chickens eggs will she lay more?
i was not sure if they were going to be fertile or not, so i was going to wait a week and candle them and now theres 10 eggs. so if i get rid of those will it make her lay more?
im not sure if this is the right forum, but ive been convinced that my eggs are not fertile, and im wondering how long is too long for the eggs to have been in the coop before you put them in the fridge to eat?
thanks!
shes sitting over it but not to much, i think maybe since i live in florida and its 91 degrees outside she may think she doesnt have to be on it constantly or something.
(since ive had her) lol. the first egg for me. i did have a rooster, but my dog got him a few weeks ago as he was defending his ladies. But i did witness him fertilize the hens. since then i have fenced off the chickens area. anyways, this is my first egg laid at home and i have a few questions...
