Like other have said, training. I have 3 dogs and when I started (they all had basic training and listened well) I would only let one out at a time. I would redirect if they even started to stare at the chickens and they went in the house immediately if they tried to chase. My small dog is...
- Bedding in the coop: What do you use?
~~ I use pine shavings
- How deep do you let it get?
~~No deeper than about 4inches. The chickens kick it out the door once it's deeper than that.
- How often do you clean it out?
~~I clean the poop boards daily. Other than that I clean the coop...
Thanks! The two flocks have been in separate runs right next to each other for a few weeks while the babies got bigger. I've started letting them free range together when I have time to sit out and watch them. It's been going ok I think :)
Thank you! I've had my suspicions for a couple weeks now so it's nice to have a definitive answer. Do you know if having a rooster will make a difference with integrating them into my current flock?
I have a group of 4 month old EE's and I'm beginning to think at least one is a rooster. I've tried to do a little research on my own on how to tell, but I'm still not sure. This is only my second year of getting chickens and I've not had a rooster yet so any input would be greatly...
I got six "Ameraucana" (I assume they are likely EE's but all I wanted was colored eggs so either works wonderful for me!) chicks this spring and can't wait to start getting eggs. I didn't know how pretty the birds were before purchasing some, they are beautiful and I have loved watching them grow.
Thank you. We have been just watching her and figured since she isn't showing any other signs of illness we would just wait and see. I just wanted to make sure there wasn't an issue that I should be aware of
So this isn't really an emergency, and the only reason I am curious is that my girls are at laying age and two have already started. I just didn't know where else to post this. I have one chicken that is the same size and age as all the others, but the comb and waddle seem to have stopped...
I'm loving the poop boards! So glad I found this thread! Here's a couple pics of the inside of the coop. The only thing I would like is to find a scoop with smaller holes to get some of the tiny poops!
DH and I went to check on our chicks this afternoon and noted that one of my golden comets was separated from the group and sleeping. DH picked her up and she opened her eyes, then immediately went back to sleep. He handed her to me and I noticed that she was a little cold and her feathers...
This thread is great. I never got any pics of my girls sleeping goofy since they all just piled on top each other every night. Did make it hard to do a head count though!
