I don't know if anyone who participated in the swap are still around BYC, but I got my blocks out to do something with them, I added several to the group and am currently making a few more. My project isn't finished but here is what I am making w/ the circle in squares we crocheted.
Yes as has been said the hole is for thread. I (and several others) have done both suturing closed and left w/o sutures. I think they heal quicker and have less time on the table w/o sutures.

Welcome to the Okie group and BYC. When this group was much more active we had yearly chicken gatherings that were called POOPS. We haven't had a poops gathering in years.
When we have a broody we always give her extra high nutritious treat for her alone on the nest usually a boiled egg. I know it isn't "necessary" broody hens have survived for millinea but it makes us feel better and can't hurt anything.
