I know broodies lose weight, and act lethargic, but picking Honey up just makes me feel sad for her. She has about a week more to go, and I'm having to get her out of the nest to eat and care for herself some days. When I pick her up, she feels so light and bony, it's freaking me out a little. This is the first time I've let a hen go broody, so I'm probably all nervous for no reason. What makes me feel better is when she's off the nest she seems fine, eating, drinking, and dustbathing before she goes back in. Her comb is still a pretty good color, although shrunken. Should I go ahead and switch her to chick starter/grower? Would the extra protein help her to not lose much more weight? She's taking really great care of those eggs. I'm proud of her.
