Our hen has moulted heavily (well I think it’s moulting!) Yesterday she was sitting on lower perch than others and breathing strangely… neck puffs out. I’ll attach a video
My hen has been broody for a few weeks now,
We keep locking her out of the coop for half the day so she eats and drinks.
She's not laying at all and not sitting on anything.
She gets very angry when I take her out of the nesting box and tries to attack me.
Just now I noticed her opening her...
Oh no.... I just witnessed her trying to poo.... her vent was tube like outwards again, just a drop of runny poo came out and she continued straining.
I don't think this is going to be fixable... :-( Is it???
Thanks so much everyone.
I have caught her the past 2 nights and bathed her in warm water with epson salts. I then applied "soov" haemorrhoid ointment and gently pushed the "lump" back inside the vent.
Today she looks so much better. It has semi returned to position and no fluid leakage. I have...
Thanks for your reply.
She is extremely hard to catch and I don't like my chances.
She has laid an egg today. Her vent still looks prolapsed and is a bit messy. She has been trying to peck at it.
What should I do if I can't eventually catch her? I have tried a few times :-(
So strange... She's now walking around as normal. Alert and happy! And eating! I have put the calcium in her water. Should I give her antibiotics or just wait and see?
My hen is unwell this morning, all fluffed up with head tucked in.
Is usually very friendly but running away from me.
She just did a poo full of egg I think?
There are white streaky bits all through it.
Do I just need to wait for it all to pass out?
I have read about giving them calcium tablets...
It’s possibly just something from the garden... they free range every evening and we have blackberries around the place, apparently with ripe fruit at moment. I’ll keep an eye on them and try not to freak out just yet!
I haven’t seen them being chased at all. 2 of my hens are broody and grumpy but not aggressive towards the others. Have had 1 soft shell egg per day last few days... always broken. Apart from that they are acting and eating as normal.
I just noticed yesterday that a few of my hens have black marks, runny looking, on there faces and combs have black speckles. I recently treated them and the coop for mites. Could it be related or something else?
I’m in Australia.
Please help!
