I believe I have a hen who is recovering from Mareks (https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=184284).
She's doing very well and has had a couple chiro treatments from my vet - he thought she had some nerve damage from my aggressive rooster.
She appears to be comfortable and...
Tootsie has an appointment with the vet this afternoon. She's perky, eating, drinking, and bright-eyed so I hope that is in our favor. Dr. E does all farm animals and if it's something he can't handle he'll send me elsewhere.
Thanks so much Father!
No medicated feed - started on organic chick feed and now on organic layer. And the boys have been rehomed for over 2 weeks.
I'll make an appointment for her tomorrow. I did a search on here and found a thread by "ryan" and it sounded so similar. When I followed a...
My hen - hatched 10/15 and vaccinated the same day - has been limping for almost 3 weeks. I had 2 roos that had been hatched with her and when hormones kicked in the boys were enthusiastic and one was a bit aggressive. I thought she sprained a toe(s) on her right foot.
I originally thought...
I just rehomed a couple roosters and now I am freaking out over my girls having a sentry. Any suggestions on what would alert them to a hawk besides a rooster or livestock guard dog? They free-range and I can't change that, come into their coop at night and take an afternoon nap in the barn...
Thanks so much for the replies.
I have just 5 - 4 pullets and a tiny baby roo and then the 3 girls.
FWIW, we are in a deep freeze right now and it'll only get worse, or at best stay the same, temp wise until at least Mar.
Coop is 8x8 wood with attached enclosed run and the older girls...
I have 3 Buckeye hens - ages 2 years, 1.5 year and 11 mo. olds. Quarantine is almost over - another week to go until I hit the 30 day mark. Now I've got a new set of questions!
My chicks - also Buckeyes are 12 weeks old tomorrow. I doubt I'll raise chicks in the
house again - especially...
I'm in Miamisburg with a small flock of Buckeyes. I've got 3 hens from "BuckeyeDave" and they are lovely. I've got 4 pullets and a little roo upstairs that are 12 weeks old about to join the ladies outside.
I'm firmly sticking with Buckeyes.
I'm new on this board and with the poultry show coming up it looks like I joined at just the right time!
I live south of Dayton and am also looking for chickens to buy. I would love a few Buckeyes!
I am new here and have decided Buckeye's are the way to go for me here in SW Ohio. I was looking for a breed that could tolerate winter and be good layers.
I would love a few hens as it's just my husband & I but not quite sure about the rooster! I will be doing free range with coop and...
