The chicken breeds I am thinking of tolerate being held , but do not seek attention for holding. Chicken breeds that are very calm and friendly, such the cochin.
I like barred rocks also! I think they are a cool breed! Can you get adult chickens to do that and stay calm when held? How do you hold a chicken to make it feel secure? I'm new to chickens.
The chicks I want to handle have never had any calm reaction when picked up. I try to catch them, but they cluck and flap their wings to get away. I have only succeeded once, when the chicks were small enough to under their old coop in their pen.I picked it up, it acted as if it were wild...
I am pretty sure my friend has a black orpington. It has feathers on the legs and is very tame, doesn't really mind being picked up. I will make a new post once I get pictures to verify. Thank you all for the help!
What chicken breeds are best for holding/ human interaction? I have been curious and been wanting to know based off of your experience. Thank you and happy holidays!
Yes, but sadly it is not my chicken. I will try to upload as soon as possible. I am new to breed identification, so I did not think about the comb. The photo may not be on till Tuesday, so wait and it will be on soon. Happy Holidays!
I have been really wanting to know what breed this chicken is. It is friendly, letting me hold it for a while, if that info helps. I am thinking this chicken is an Australorp, but I just want to be sure. Here is a photo of me holding it in my lap. Thank you for taking your time to read this!
