I set a dozen using the faulty thermometer and ended up with just two hatching.
As soon as I realized the first group had been incubating at such a low temp, I set another dozen. They started hatching last night and there are eight chicks so far.
The proper temp makes a big difference. :)

I ordered a dozen jumbo brown coturnix quail eggs to incubate. They started hatching tonight. We have a blondie! What the heck is it? Are some of them this color, is this an albino, or maybe a different type of bird?
Thanks. :) How long should I wait? There's actually a slight rotten-egg odor in the incubator . . . :P
The two that hatched are doing great, though. I hope it's two hens, or a rooster and a hen. Would make things easier.
No, I haven't shut it down. I did float them all, and none wiggled. I do want to give anyone who was just asleep a chance.
I was worried about the poop because I once had a duckling (hatched by its mother) who wasn't doing well until we soaked a piece of shell off its bottom. ;)
Um . . . poop...
Only two out of the twelve eggs I incubated hatched, but I'm pleased to have gotten any, since my thermometer was faulty and they were incubated at 89 degrees for the first three days. The eggs were also delayed in the mail (misrouted to Illinois instead of Oregon), so I received them nine days...
Just twelve, but showed bright light when candled a few days ago. I marked and kept them, just in case I was wrong.
Thanks for sharing the wisdom of your experience. Another has pipped now. My kids are over the moon about it! :)
One just hatched, two hours short of finishing its 18th day of incubation. I don't see any pips on the others, but this was really fast. I'm sure I looked in there about an hour ago, and saw nothing. The next time I looked, I spied an empty shell right away . . . had to look around for the...
This is day 17. Because of a faulty thermometer, these eggs were incubated at about 89 degrees F. for the first three days. Fron then on (after I got a new thermometer), they've been at 99-100 and about 50 percent humidity, which I increased to 60 percent three days ago. I also stopped turning...
I have a dozen quail eggs that have been incubating for nine days. I tried the float test and all but one sunk like a rock. Is there still hope for the eggs that sank, or should i toss them? There was some trouble with the thermometer that came with my incubator during the first three days, so...
