Hi All! Just wanted to post a new pic of my EE. She’s now about 10 wks old. Still appears to be a pullet from what I can tell. Her comb is basically the same as the earlier pic.
I put the youngers go into a crate that I put in the coop that I lock up at night. During the day the coop is open and all the chickens, younger and older, can go in and out of it as they please. I think I have the issue figured out - thanks!
Thanks! I may try this tonight. My problem is I start to get nervous as soon as it's dusk, and jump the gun in putting them in the coop for the night. One issue I have is that if the chicks go into the coop but not their separate crate inside it, I can't really get in there to put them in their...
They have access to a run during the day. What I meant is they all will go in and out of the coop during the day - but they are not shut up inside it together.
Hello All! I've been working this last month on integrating 4 chicks (now 9 wks) with 2 pullets (5 mos). I have been working on this since the chicks were 4 wks old, and just this last week the older ones finally stopped bullying the younger ones, and I no longer have to keep the younger ones in...
Thanks you! They are in a separate enclosure inside the run, and I let them out when I am around to supervise as they are getting bullied by the larger pullets. The run is not predator proof but the coop is and this morning I measured my smaller dog crate and it will fit inside the coop! So I'll...
Hello All! I am integrating 4 chicks (~8wks) in with my flock of 2 pullets (who are about to start laying) and it is slow going. I've been bringing the chicks inside at night but that will not be possible much longer. There's no easy way to block off a part of the coop, so I'm thinking of using...
Thank you to all who chimed in! It seems the consensus is she's a pullet (I'm much relieved, as I can't keep a rooster). I posted this in part so that other people who are searching for info about sexing EEs and this particular coloration could find it, so I'll post back with some more pics in a...
Hi All! I can’t find much info on this color EE. My other has a standard female partridge coloration. What do you think, pullet or cockerel? Six weeks old today, bought as sexed pullet but it was the only buff in the box, the rest were all partridge.
Great idea! I'll give that a try once the chicks are a bit bigger. I could also put the older pullets in the coop for a couple hours during the day. I let them out to free range a bit earlier as well, but I like to be able to supervise that.
Excellent, we are on week 2 already so right on schedule. I had a bit of success earlier, the older pullets approached the chicks and just regarded them rather than chasing and pecking as before. Very interesting about not being accepted into the flock until they are laying! Fascinating social...
