    SURPRISE!!!

I have two baby chicks! The remaining bared rock hen is mothering them. They are outside and I usually let my flock run during the day but I will need to get them into the coop and find a way to keep them there until they are bigger.

    Mayonnaise

I did the whole whisk, whisk, whisk, whisk thing. It paid off for sure, but I have googled mayo and my immersion blender may make it faster next time...

    Mayonnaise

I just made home made mayonnaise with the yolks of my fresh eggs. I wouldn't trust store bought eggs for a recipe that calls for raw egg yolks. Let me tell you. The word sublime does not do justice to home made mayonnaise!

The miracle happened sometime while I was at work. One of the "eggers"! Soon I will be knee deep in Chicken embryos... The flock is 5 months and one day old today!

Lesson learned: Don't let a chicken sit on your lap...

Don't let a chicken sit on your lap if you don't want poop running down your leg. This is what I get for letting the BR cockerell jump up on my lap this evening... Who would have know that much poo could come out of a bird that small! :-)

Picked up a head of lettuce for the gals on the way home from work today. They went to town on that thang!

    Importance of light consistency?

I am wondering how important it is to be consistent when it comes to lighting. Shorter days mean electric lighting in my coop. Should the lights come on at the same time every day or does it matter if I am an hour off from say 6am? Will it cause the pullets confusion? I know... Dumb question...

Two Weeks old and triple in size!

Today marks the new flock's two week birthday. All made it from the hatchery and all are present and accounted for! They are feathering out nicely and are very eager to try out these new wings. They are in that in-between stage of downy feathers and real feathers. They are working...

Chicks arrived from Murray McMurray today. 2 days old!

Whenever I get day old chicks I always have to remind myself that they fit into an egg. I don't know why I am so surprised that they are so small every time. D'oh! Why didn't I realize that !
