Here's a little scamp I picked up at a swap. An impulse buy, if you will. Almost five weeks old, I believe - can you dark brahma experts hazard a guess as to gender? I love this little bird - it's such a sweetie. And LOUD. Those cheeps could shatter glass.
That's what I'm hoping. I've never raised a standard and a bantam, so this will be new for me. I did have a showgirl roo with my silkie roo (they were the same age and raised together) and they almost killed each other. I had to rehome the showgirl. :(
I'm planning to be vigilant.
Thanks, guys. :) I just adore him. I'm hoping that there won't be any issues between him and my silkie roo. This one seems very afraid of the roo. Even though he's twice the rooster's size, lol.
lol, same here. Mine is queen of the roost. My black sex-link is the enforcer. She sends the rooster packing when she feels like it. XD They are THE most personable birds I have. I love them.
This is Lavender - my fourteen-week-old Coronation. At first, I was sure he/she was a roo. Then a hen. Now I'm waffling and thinking he's a roo. >.> I've never been so undecided about one of my chickens before. This bird is not crowing - the speckled sussex Lavender was raised with was...
I have a five week old light sussex chick that I have been treating for what I believed was wry neck. She began with the twisted neck, leaning to the right, keeping low to the ground and occasionally flipping out and flopping all over the place. Yesterday we put the birds outside in their new...
My sweet showgirl, Eglantine, has begun limping and really favoring his right leg. When I pick him up, holding his back to my chest, he lifts his left leg, but wants to keep his right leg straight and rather stiff. I checked him out pretty thoroughly and could see no obvious signs of injury...
Ahaha, TD - I know, I know. They're so ugly they're cute. The underground coop is a really nifty idea. I hope we can manage it.
Mitzi ~ He was cracking me up; he kept pecking at the camera. They're such sweet babies.
Thank you! I really do love the showgirls - they're such adorable little babies. LOL, of course Lola! What a great name.
TD ~ I got the idea from this forum, actually. Google underground chicken coop and it'll come right up - we thought it was such a cool idea so we're giving it a go...
