Silkie mix with discharge and maybe blocked vent? Gray, pasty discharge (no yellow or clear)

Soy (silkie mix hen probably 9 months) was acting quiet this morning, eating OK, but wobbly on her feet. On inspection she has a pasty, almost sandy discharge from her vent and maybe tissue blocking or protruding from it. A tiny bit of blood or injured tissue. I would suspect she were egg bound...

Hen with Bald Red Belly - what is it?

I think I finally found the culprit(s). What a mess! Just a few weeks ago I found a few white mites/lice at night. Never could find them on any of the chickens bodies, but did a complete decontamination of the coop, or so I thought. Been trying to see if they were still there since then, but...

Hen with Bald Red Belly - what is it?

Thanks for everyone's replies. No, she's never been broody and she is laying on the same pine bedding she always has. I don't think it is molting, either because she hasn't lost feathers anywhere else. It's so localized. It does kind of look like sunburn, but when is that area underneath exposed...

Hen with Bald Red Belly - what is it?

Hello, My top-of-the-flock 1-yr-old hen has a red belly with almost no feathers. I haven't seen her pick at it. It is not bloody. The skin just looks really inflamed. She has absolutely no other symptoms. She's eating fine, laying fine, acting normal, etc. It flares up and down a little bit. I...

White Crested Polish Hen Changing Color

"Thick" is a nice term. I have been thinking she is fatter than she was last summer, too. She was so narrow before. Now only her eggs seem narrow. No extra toes, but we'll keep her any way. ;-) We'll just refer to her as "Mottled Ady" now. Thanks everyone!

White Crested Polish Hen Changing Color

Here's a better picture of her. This was about 10 months ago. It really is the same bird. She just looks particularly crazy when it rains and it rains here a lot.

White Crested Polish Hen Changing Color

About the color change - besides not knowing her age, it's been so gradual. Over the last few months maybe? Didn't seem to coincide with anything. She laid eggs last summer and was black. She resumed laying again this past week looking like a backwards Dalmatian.

White Crested Polish Hen Changing Color

The rain do totally makes us laugh. That's why we took the picture. We're not sure how old she is. We have had her almost a year, but she came to us as a hen. My 2-yr-old daughter wanted a chicken "with a funny haircut" so the guy who supplied us with our first hens located a polish for us. We...

White Crested Polish Hen Changing Color

Definitely a hen -- intermittently she lays very pointy pinkish eggs.

White Crested Polish Hen Changing Color

I knew you all would know! Here's what Ady used to look like, but you have to excuse the bad hair day. It was raining. Here's what she looks like now. So, what's the official word? What kind of bird do we have? Thanks!

White Crested Polish Hen Changing Color

We have a 1-2 yr old white crested polish whose crest has been getting more black and less white recently. Her previously solid blue-black body now has white spots. She's looking more and more mottled and less and less black with a white crest. It's adding to her charm, just wondering if this is...

Any possibility Polish or Black Star will go broody?

Thanks for the examples and well wishes! She has been busy moving the eggs back out of the nesting box where I moved them into what she has decided is her nest. That should be a good sign, right? There are only 5 eggs so far including 2 golf balls. My roo is probably 6 months. If we have...

Any possibility Polish or Black Star will go broody?

One of our three "pullets" grew up to be a rooster. He was a very, very late bloomer. Didn't make a peep until over 5 months old and now he is a-doodling away. Any way, we would like to take advantage of our accidental rooster and go for chicks, but our hens are a Polish and a Black Star...

    You gotta see this egg!

We have two mega-sized eggs in our fridge. Now we might know why. Can't wait to crack them open tonight.
