    Hen vomiting

Hi Beautifulbirds, thanks for your replies. I gave her the garlic treatment for about 4 days. She is back on the garlic now (24hours). It seams I could operate or flush, both could quite easily kill her. Bugger. The vet recommends more cooking oil. Keep her off the grass and only feeding her...

    Hen vomiting

Well, chicken is not doing too good today. She’s sitting down with eyes closed and head pulled in. I’ve been back to the vet and she's sure it's a blockage. Vet said if it was a bacterial infection she would not have lasted this long. The vet recommended putting her down.. or a very expensive...

    Hen vomiting

Another good link there thanks Pwand So my hen is "Regurgitating" not vomiting. It does happen when she puts her head down to eat. She is a young bird. I will weigh her tonight. I wish I had done that a few weeks ago. Her breath doesn't smell. I would have noticed that while giving her the...

    Hen vomiting

Yeah, 5 days yesterday. De-wormed 3weeks ago, that’s the first thing the vet recommended. I’ve researched the sour crop and I’m pretty sure that’s what it is. I’m now sure it’s not a yeast or candida infection or the nystatin would have helped. Maybe it’s bacterial and antibiotics are needed...

    Hen vomiting

Well it's been another week now and no improvement. I decided to try the nystatin and unfortunately that hasn’t helped. I withheld food and water last night and checked her out this morning to find her crop still swollen and water balloon like. I also noticed her throw up again yesterday.. she...

Impacted Crop for 4 Months, still alive, should I operate?

Is the crop soft like a water balloon? I have a hen at the moment with swollen crop and she’s been like this for a month now.

    Hen vomiting

thanks for the link pwand When I read the signs listed they are not what I see tho. She’s has been eating like a horse since I’ve switched feed from pallet to mash. Her stool looks healthy. She is the larger of the two birds I have and now she is just as active as the other one. She’s feeding...

    Hen vomiting

I went back to the vet and they suggested mixing some oil into her food, vegetable or cod liver. They did agree it might be a yeast of fungal infection but didn’t know where to get the nystatin from. They will get back to me on that one… Thanks for the link dlhunicorn, some scary reading in there!

My hen is doing well! she even laid an egg yesterday! Her crop is still puffed up (not as bad tho) and she still jerks her head/neck around when swallowing. beautifulbirds, I’m still giving her the garlic water. iajewel maybe it would be best if I call a vet locally and ask about Nystatin?

    Hen vomiting

Quote: Hi iajewel, I wouldn’t want you to go to the trouble of posting anything all the way to New Zealand. I’m sure I can find any recommended medicines here. Thank you for the thought though! Today my hen is still moving around pretty well. She is no longer the boss of the coup, she has...

    Hen vomiting

Hi iajewel, I'm trying a garlic remedy at the moment. It’s too soon to tell if it’s working yet. The good new is she doesn’t seem to be getting worse… just not getting better either. Thanks,

    Hen vomiting

Thanks Cetawin. She seems to be eating and moving around ok today. She is still rolling her head and neck around while trying to swallow. I heard her make a weird gulping noise too. Her crop is still puffed up. She is obviously experiencing discomfort in the throat, crop area. I wish the vet had...
