Follow up for others who might have similar issue — vet tested and confirmed ear infection. Now she is on antibiotics (Sulfamethoxazole / Trimethoprim). Hopefully that does it!
Thank you! That’s what I was thinking when I woke up this am. I tried some amoxicillin but maybe not best route. I’ll consult with vet and take advantage of having that option. Cheers
Hi, I have a 3 year old hen who has been having ear problems for several months. She shakes her head and does yawning motion. I first noticed the feathers around her ears were crusty. Now sometimes she has sticky yellow stuff in her ears. Any thoughts? Infection? I’m getting close to taking...
I had that with one of mine. It was a long road. I put drawing salve on it and the skin on bump eventually got soft and thin enough that I could drain it. after several trips to vet they swabbed it out and packed it with a strong antibiotic. That finally healed ( 8 months from appearance of...
I have a hen who had a hard, swollen foot pad with no characteristic bumblefoot scab. Eventually the swelling moved to top of her foot between toes. Then the skin on top of foot failed and the wound started to drain. It has been a long process (going on a year)…not sure what I would/could...
@Katakornchicks
I applied drawing slave and gave her homeopathic calcarea carbonica pellets 2x day. Not sure which of those made the biggest difference or if it truly was the combination but it helped my chicken’s wound come to a head so I could start draining it. Kept her in a dog kennel...
It has been 3 weeks. I’ve been cleaning her foot, applying drawing salve and wrapping it daily. I am ready to take her to emergency vet since it looks so bad.
Does this look familiar to anyone?
What a sweet bird! I have only had chickens for a few years so I will leave advice to someone more experienced. I don’t want to discourage you, but the two situations I’ve had that sound remotely similar ended poorly. In my brief experience it can be difficult to get answers to the questions...
Interesting. Appreciate you sharing. Sounds like she has been an exceptional patient. Glad to hear she is well and you’re able to manage it. I’ll keep this in mind. Best wishes!
Appreciate the note. Did yours have the “manure ball” problem (can’t remember what else people call it)? I have looked between her toes on bottom of foot in hopes that packed dirt, etc. was the issue, but I didn’t find anything. It all looked really clear. Won’t hurt for me to look again though.
Hi, I live in Houston and have 5 hens that free range in my backyard. Signed up here so I can post questions about foot issue haven’t been able to get answered.
thanks everyone!
