I had 2 roosters, one easter egger and one easter egger -barred cross. What eggs colors could I possibly get if they breed to my Cuckoo maran hen (lays light brown eggs), or my Ameraucana x WTB hen (lays blue eggs) , or my Ameraucana ee (lays olive eggs), or my supossed to be full White leghorn...
I have 2 I am trying to figure if pullet or roo. 1 of them is trying to crow already but I can't catch who it is. What ya'll think? The first is my Easter egger 6 weeks old, crested head. The second is a 3 week old french blue black splash maran, that I feel pretty sure is a roo. Its crown...
Our dogs love to chase the chickens and pin them to the ground when 1 gets out. We have our coop in the backyard where they dogs can walk right up to it, but can not get in. We now have them take turns. The dofs get to have run of the backyard during the day, and then we put them in their...
I was told most hens will stay fertile for on average up to 15 days because they store the roos sperm in their SSTs. Some rare cases up to a month. Why do you say if they are fertile that far out that there would be a lower hatch rate and poor genetics?
Ok, I'm new at this guessing game. I think I can see bullseyes on both of my girls eggs. I have 2 pics of each. Tell me what you think please, fertile or not. My 2 girls (a lavendar buff and an olive easter egger) have been away from their roosters for 13 days now. I've got 15 eggs and...
I have some questions for those more experienced than me. I just added two hens to my flock. 1 lavender buff and and olive easter egger. Both hens were with roosters before I got them ( buff with buff, and EE w/EE) SO, I thought that since they were still fertile I would let them hatch out...
I'm interested in this answer as well. We got an easter egger and a lavendar buff hens that were with their roos,
so I figured I would let them hatch some out.
Well my sweet little supose to be a hen, start crowing this AM, so i guess I am on the search for another hen or a few chicks. Anyone know any black or dark colored silkies available near central Alabama?
How can you tell? I figured with our neighbors loud rooster crowing next door, if it was a roo he would be following suit with crowing by now. Doesn't act like a rooster either.
I have 1 - 6 month old silkie (hopefully hen) and 4 - 9week old pullets, do they have a natural instinct to lay eggs in the coup nesting boxes or do you have to teach them somehow? 2 of the pullets lay in the box at night, and the rest roost right now. Should I block off the box for now so...
What feed do you feed? Ive been doing the chick starter mixed with 18% scratch, along with grass and greens, and crushed egg shell along with a few meal worm each day. And any other bugs and worms my kids find. Lol
