What age to provide hens nesting boxes?

If it is close to 65 at night and they are pretty much feathered out then I would say they no longer need the heat lamp.

    Hemp bedding

I realize this post is from 6 months ago but where did you buy your hemp bales in San Diego?

EE colouring / plumage - chicks vs/ adults --- Post your PICS!

Where did you get your EE chicks? They are gorgeous. I am curious as to what color eggs you are getting from them. I had a white EE, Bunny, who sadly was killed by a coyote. She was my favorite hen.

    Stubborn Scaly Leg Mites

This is a GREAT idea to get them all soaking at once. Tis the season for wading pools. I will grab one in my next trip to Walmart. I see a spa day in my girls future;)

    Stubborn Scaly Leg Mites

Thank you for your suggestion. I will try the ivermectin with the vaseline on their legs. My two Brahmas have shown signs for months. I treated them last fall with vaseline but failed to spray the coop. I hoped they would improve but clearly they didn't. I was hesitant to use any "non-natural"...

    Stubborn Scaly Leg Mites

Cyprus, thanknyou for the link. I've read through it and while helpful, it still doesn't answer my questions directly. I am hoping someone who has had success in treating SLM will chime in with answers. As many have remarked, this is a frustrating one to deal with. Thanks!

    Stubborn Scaly Leg Mites

After reading the multitude of posts here and elsewhere re: scaly leg mite treatment, I have a few questions for y'all. First, a little history: flock of 9 (1-2 years old), four showing signs, the two Brahmas have it bad. For the past two weeks, I've been treating entire flock: 1) Cleaned entire...

    Chicken Eating Itself

I wonder if you could make a cone from a paper cup? You might have to play around a bit in terms of size but it could work. Good luck!

    Coop & Run Bedding

You might want to consider wooden slats as a floor. Check out photos from teila that were posted under ueaterday's thread "raised coop with run underneath or walk-in? Which is best?"

Just raised two baby chicks without a heat lamp

Thanks for your reply! You've given me the courage to try brooding in the coop next time.

Dawnbigfoot, did you older hen ever jump over the partition and/or in to the Rubbermaid tub? I like your ideas of brooding in the coop/run but wondered if the partition needed a cover.

    Bunny FINALLY laid another egg!!

So my white EE Bunny was the first of our small flock of six to lay. She gave us two mint green eggs in early June then nothing. Well, after over 2 1/2 months of waiting she finally laid her third egg. Hopefully, Bunny's freeloading days are over! Just thought I would share my story for the...
