So my white EE Bunny was the first of our small flock of six to lay. She gave us two mint green eggs in early June then nothing. Well, after over 2 1/2 months of waiting she finally laid her third egg. Hopefully, Bunny's freeloading days are over! Just thought I would share my story for the other newbies whose girls go on a freeloading binge. Thank you to oldhenlovesdogs who reassured me that EE's can be inconsistent layers and to be patient.

I had no idea that 'freeloading' hens was even a thing! But I'm sure it'll happen to me eventually.

Just wanted to say that 'Bunny' is the most adorable name for a hen, ever.

Now I want a Bunny, too......

We had a Lavender Orpington here that never laid an egg! She passed at 18 months old from unknown causes, but in all that time she never laid. We know she didn't have a "stash" hidden somewhere because her vent was definitely that of a non laying pullet. Such a freeloader! My sister bought her to keep at our house so my nephew could "have his own" chicken. She was supposed to pay her keep in eggs. I'm not fond of that arrangement and won't be doing that again.
