    Ragged hens

It started with one hen getting what i can only call a prolapse... we are new chicken people as of March 2011 so everything is new to us. We separated her and she is free ranging and does not seem to get any worse. Then two hens in the coop or run or whatever you call where they live, are...

chicken butt looks bad - a bit gruesome

Well I got some blue kote for the featherless areas, those chickens went crazy when i started spraying it! Wild! I also sprayed the bad looking butt, as it said it was for wounds too. The lady at the feed store recommended Duramycin for the bad butt, so put some in her drinking water when we got...

chicken butt looks bad - a bit gruesome

And I was looking at the other chickens today, and two of them have bare areas right in front of their tail-feathers. No bloody spots or they'd be pecked at too, but whats up with that? Does the rooster do that? Just a bare area about the size of a quarter, no one seems to care, but they looked...

chicken butt looks bad - a bit gruesome

Where do you get antibiotics for a chicken? We've only had the chickens since march 3rd and this is the first problem we've had. I keep telling my husband the stuff I'm reading on here and he says I'm just full of good news. Had no idea chickens were susceptible to so many illnesses!

chicken butt looks bad - a bit gruesome

Since the first post we have kept her out of the coop and under a laundry basket at night - not the best of accomodations but it keeps her separate and safe. She has laid an egg. He prolapse isnt as bloody red, but more of a dark color. She can still poop. She just wanders about the yard...

chicken butt looks bad - a bit gruesome

Today my husband noticed the other chickens pecking at one of the hens and her bottom was bleeding. Her bottom is plucked bare and her butt is bloody and looks like prolapsed raw meat. He took her out of the coop to keep her away, but will she survive? What about tomorrow when she is supposed to...

    Chickens attack at feeding time

My husband goes out to feed the chickens in the morning, and evening, and they are on attack mode when he gets there. I say they must need more food. They are 8-9 weeks old, and on the second kind of food (cant remember, but its a step up from the chickie food) There are ten chickens, do they...
