I’ve been absent a long time. Moved from the USA to Italy for family reasons and only now starting up again with 3 girls. I’d almost forgotten how much fun they can be. Started off with a cheap ready made coop but will have something a little larger and safer before summer ends. I have a Blck...
She is still doing great! I am mostly at home so I do spend a good deal of time watching their antics. I hadn't noticed anything in particular except the afternoon it was raining and they were all out in the rain. Thought that was odd and think she might just have gotten a chill before she...
@wyorp rock
Thanks so much for your advice and help. I couldn't find the Corid at any nearby TS nor at my feed store so was never able to give her that. I did apply some VetRX under her wings and on her head. The smell was really nice, don't know it it helped her!
I let her out to free range...
All the others have gone into the coop. They all look good and normal. We go out and spend time with them in the evenings, rather than watch the evening news, lol. I am stumped. Little girl is just sitting in the cat box and lets me pet her and everything. I am so confused and other than...
Her crop is soft, she is drinking water. No loss of balance, just lethargic. Her poop is diarrhea and very dark, my husband says it is shiny and very dark brown.
I have her in the house with us, nice and warm, would it be wise to start Corid anyway? Would it hurt?
Now she is quite calm so...
I bought 7 chicks from Tractor Supply 8 weeks ago and this one Barred Rock was fine until this morning. When I let the rest of the flock out to free range she didn't come out of the coop, so I went in and picked her up off the roost and carried her out, after a few minutes she wanted to get...
I am working this afternoon, so will try to figure out how to upload some pictures tomorrow. I don't provide heat, they didn't have any when I purchased them, this is Florida! I will check for Mites before I get ready for work, thanks so much! They are approx 2.5- 3.5 weeks old now, that is I...
They are losing all the baby fluff I guess. The last ones I had did about the same thing about the same time.
The one I lost was last week, noticed she stood apart from the others and wasn't feeding much so I separated her. They were all in the house then. I moved them outside to the big coop...
Oh thank goodness! I already have 2 French copper Marans cockerels too many and a young French Maran rooster. All sons of the rooster in my avatar.
I am so loving raising those baby chicks!
Thanks so much for your prompt replies.
I bought 3 barred rocks baby chicks among others just about 2-3 weeks ago. One little one died and the other two have just started doing the chest bump thing you often see in growing cockerels. Is that a sure sign they are both cockerels?
All the baby chicks are molting at the moment...
BIG OLE BIRD PROBIOTIC (additive for water feeding)

It is really hot here in SW Florida and I want to...
Hi MckeeCoop, I can't help with the wire mesh but I know about stray and feral cats! I have a herd of them around here. Down to about 5 at the moment but they don't bother the chickens. Had them all spayed and neutered through our county TNR (trap, neuter and return) program. We feed them twice...
Love the idea of locally sourced, what I am getting is from Virginia, I believe. I read on another thread to use the more dusty parts that would be wasted by adding it to yogurt or add water to it and make it more of a porridge consistency.
I just really would like to go the organic non GMO...
Thank you, Robert. I have already started the mixing with the old feed, but your idea sounds great. I will file it away for future use when/if I change feeds again. Also they will be in a bigger accommodation where two separate feeders will be feasible.
