Well it is all over now....
51 birds brought home averaging 8.5 pounds and range from 4.9 - 10.6 pounds.
Spent about $600 on feed for them for about 433 pounds of chicken or $1.40 of feed per pound of meat plus cost of chick and processing.
It has been 8 or 9 weeks and I still have 2 more weeks before the date with the butcher......I am estimating one bird is 12# already. I will weigh him tonight to confirm but he seems very healthy and mobile. They are white rock X.
Hope to bring a smile to such a serious section......I had to run back in and grab my camera but the original was about 8 birds and my little girl all at the feeder in harmony. When I got back with the camera they were mostly sitting down with a couple wondering how the dog could still keep...
Thanks for the feedback. I opened up the hatch to let them out this AM and they actually were eager to get out on their own and about half went out and half stayed inside before I left for work so that is promising.

It is supposed to rain later this week so will keep them in the coop. But under another thread I need to stop spending so much time sitting outdoors watching them. Today was watching them decimate...
My meat birds are now about 7 weeks old and another 3 or so before they have a date with the butcher.

my birds will be around the 2.5 pound range later this week and want to do in a few at this size....will a mechanical drump plucker work on such small bodies? or should I just hand pluck? I friend is going to help but I can rent a plucker for cheap.
....

My White Rock X are 2 weeks old and are already 1.18#. Some obviously smaller but I just went by reference from this thread

Right now they get access to feed 24x7 and I am reading some threads state that I should cut back to...
My 65 or so meat chicks are doing well at 1.5 weeks.
at what age can I give them scratch? I have no grit yet so just fed them fine ground scrtach powder out of my hand. Now they all run over to see me!
These should be ready in 8 - 9 weeks and are on track from a wight per week schedule as...
