Although not an expert on chicken keeping it is one of my favorite hobbies. I live in California where we are lucky to have mostly sunny days, the nights are very rarely freezing during winter. My chickens usually live a long life..the oldest, Daisy was a ripe old age of 12 when I lost her...
Thank you for your answers and the link (very interesting) I never knew sounded like a joke.... I was beginning to think I had bragged about my chickens a little to much!
While talking about my chickens at work on Friday one of the men in my crew mentioned when he was young his father neutered the Roosters resulting in a very large adult Roo to feed his very large Filipino family. I told my co-worker I had never heard of neutering a Rooster and would ask my BYC...
Soon after my son brought home our first chicken I noticed the hen (Lucki) seemed to be picking up on the goings on of our family. I sat with her in the afternoons studying her all the while I believe she was doing the same to me. I soon started to realize this is no stupid chicken we have here...
Good question...... With my hens I find that collecting eggs asap helps... I have one hen who is a mean little stinker so avoiding the problem would be a great help, I am looking forward to some answers from the experts.

Thank you all for your reply I am learning more everyday and have just the happiest of hens - Oh healthy to!

Also I will look up "Worms...

No, I have no rooster..she has two hens with her which are more timid than Lucki..I have referred to her as "manly" before but never expected she would start to crow. If this keeps up she is going to be wearing a muzzle soon
Thanks for your quick reply (she is crowing as I write).
Our silly hen "Lucky" will give out this pitiful imitation of a Rooster which sounds just like one except muffled somewhat. My neighbors have not complained yet but Lucki is pushing her luck anyone have this problem and have an idea why she is being such a stinker? She is a WLH ..gratefully...
