We are restarting our flock. We had given some away and thinned out because it got too big and then some neighborhood stray dogs thinned it out some more for us :( we had a few older chickens left that were no longer laying that went to the stew pot this winter. It just doesn't feel like home...
I'm in south la, breaux bridge/lafayette area. I'm looking for some started barred rocks or meat birds. Would love chicks but just don't have the time for to take care of them right now. If anyone knows of any locally, please let me know. Thanks!!
I have a RIR roo who recently has developed interesting leg colors, they are turning a bright shade of red, he's about 6-8 months old. He doesn't seem to have anything else going on, no mites or scaling, he's eating fine and doing his thing like normal. Just these bright red legs. Any ideas...
I currently have a flock of 12 hens and a roo with no issues, we have 12 chicks that are being integrated in with the flock and have not had any serious bullying issues. That's not to say that my older hens don't peck at the younger ones but it is not so bad that anyone gets hurt...the chicks...

My sweet hen Mabel seems to have decided to hatch some babies, when going to collect eggs this afternoon she was sitting on the eggs and would not move. While I don't mind if she does, I just didn't expect it. She showed no signs of being broody yesterday. She is currently on five eggs that...
My neighbors down the road thought it would be a good idea to get chicks. I guess they thought it was pretty easy, buy chicks stick them in a shed and go with it. They lost one within a week and now I heard through one of their relatives (who is also a neighbor) that they are not doing well...
Hey ya'll! Im need to get egg cartons and leg bands for my ever growing flock. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to get them cheap and in bulk? Thanks!!
Thanks! We have a dog house that we use when we need to separate chickens, so I think that will be a temporary home for them until they are ready to join the big girls. I can run a light out there as well. I checked our weather forecast for the next 10 days and it looks pretty uneventful as...
