I put Sevin Dust in a sock or hose and dust all over, under wings, lift feather and give a good dusting. Then dust roost and sprinkle in house and on nesting material.
So far this has worked for me. At about 2-3 weeks tail feathers really start sticking out. Those that stick out are hens, others roos. Now, I just hatched out 18, 2 different batches. The first batch, now 3 weeks, all look like hens. The odds of all being hens - RARE, so we'll see. The...
Sounds similar to what I just went through. I had a hen, Martha, who basically couldn't walk because her belly was so swollen. I'd place her in the grass during the day with food and water, which she ate and drank. After several post on different sites, I was advised that it could be a tumor...
she was a BR. I kept her behind clean. Only weird thing was her leg would quiver when she walked. I wondered if she had a hip fracture that I couldn't feel and infection set up inside. Anyway, thanks for reply. I got her about 2 years ago and think she was probably up in years at that time...
Martha did not make it. At first I thought she hurt her leg or hip because she favored one leg and it would quiver with each step. Then her belly became very bloated. After a few weeks keeping her apart from others and seeming to get better, when I picked her up to put her in house, maggots...
One of my hens has been sickly. Think she's egg bound but need opinion. Her belly is huge to the point she can barely walk. I've had her separate for about 3 weeks. Seems to get a little smaller and then so big she can't walk. Egg bound? What can I do? She is older and is a...
First, I use a light and I don't think that hurts at all. Second, feathers missing on back, neck and top of head most likely is the Roo. I have noticed some of mine are missing on chest, only visible if you lift their feathers. This is from sitting on their roost, their chest rubs the roost...
Have a friend that has a white leghorn that lays really large eggs, which have double yolks. So my question is this - as a fertile egg, will it hatch and will there be one or two chicks? Just wondered! Thanks.....Janet
do you have a rooster? If so, that is probably the problem. If there are mites, look at the base of the feathers and should see them crawling on the skin.
posted last week a problem with Martha the BR. Really favoring left leg but can't see anything wrong. Crop fills OK but notice her stomach is really large. Not moving around much, just sitting. Any ideas. Almost like her stomach is getting in the way of her legs moving
