Thank you! She is a pretty lil mutt. Hoping it is a pullet. I am at 70% lil Roos at this point. Easter egger would be a bonus, but I just need a girl 😆
Did anyone ever get Khaki and Platinum babies?? I would love to see pics. Do they also have slate legs?
I hatched some Dun choc orps and am hoping to breed for Khaki and Platinum. I also just got two more chicks that hatched from her mixed Orp pen (Dun chocolate, black, lavender, and buff) very...
I don't know what this lil one is, but it is feathering very pretty. And very flighty and fiesty. Still holding oit hope it isn't yet another baby roo.
Updated pics - They are definitely both Roos. 😆 And they do not get along! One is now named and is Head Roo of our lil flock. He is smart and sweet and already protective of his girls.
The other is in charge over at our "dear lord, how did we end up with so many boys?!" FreezerCamp Grow-out. I...
Thank you, I was leaning towards EE/OE mutt. It is starting to feather out and the chest feathers are actually white with black. It is giving off bossy lil Roo energy too, despite being "definitely a pullet." Going to be interesting to see how it grows out.
My kiddo was given this chick and we were told it is almost 2 wks and (red/blue or splash) laced wyandotte. I don't think it looks likes pics of wyandotte chicks but I having a hard time finding older chick pics for comparison though....Cute lil chipmunk coloring, brown eye liner, patterned...
Which Roo would you keep for a dual purpose mixed flock (Orps, SS, BCM, RIR)? I have 8wk old chicks - Buff Orp, Choc Orp, Speckled Sussex, and RIR. A few pullets and quite a few roos. The two BCM ended up both being Roos, one of which is super sweet and friendly.
I would like to keep 2-3 Roos...
@Bantambird @thistlewick thank you for that confirmation. Honestly, at 2 wks old they were both giving off some big Roo vibes, but I was hoping I was just reading it wrong as a newbie 😆 one is more friendly than the other, so I was really hoping against hope it was one of each. But they...
Updated pics - they are about 4.5wks now, growing big and feathering out well. Both are friendly, but one definitely more inquisitive and always the first to greet me/jump out of the brooder to explore. Both have big combs, getting more pink but not really red yet. And one's comb is a little...
I am thinking maybe the blackstar/BSL hens back crossed to the RIR roo is why they are so red... I am just surprised there are no black at all. My aunt (whose flock they came from) has hatched several dozen now and is getting the expected mix.
Thank you for those links! I am trying to learn the genetics - it is a lot!
Sorry for the confusion, my aunt gave me the eggs that I hatched. She has about 24 in her flock (her RIR roo, a few barred rock hens, black sex linked hens, and a young black sex linked roo - BSL are offspring of her...
I was hoping as mixes They would be more chill (like their black star mamas) but no luck there 😆 they are becoming more friendly but absolutely hate being handled. We interact without picking them up and they do much better!
That is a relief! A handful have some serious tail feathers, while the rest haven't even sprouted a wispy hint. 😆 2/3 being roos would have been sad (I am prepared but hoped at least half would be pullets)
Don't mind the Choc Orp, I was holding it when this Lil Red escaped the brooder and flew...
They are just 2wks old today. Both do have mostly slate legs and both have yellow combs (but I don't think they were very dark to start? ETA I went back to hatch day pics and they were dark! They have been this lighter color this past week though). And the very tiny outer toes. They are super...
