Adult Hen with suspected coccidiosis - medicated chick starter ok?

Another thing. If you have others her age...chicks, pullets, you need to treat them all. Still isolate her though.

Adult Hen with suspected coccidiosis - medicated chick starter ok?

Corid. If really bad, at this stage I make it strong and use an eye dropper in the mouth. I also add a pinch of salt & sugar as I know they need electrolytes from dehydration. I use a little custard bowl to put it in and try to give as much as I can. Last two Brahmas I even put a live mealworm...

Yup. I use and continue Corid. It’s saved a few of my pullets.

5 dear chickens heads and necks gone

Fox. This just happened to my stepson. Fox went in and killed them all. A fox will kill them all even if it’s only eating or taking one or having a meal. They kill every single bird first.

Can raccoons catch chickens in the open ?

Yes! Raccoons kill chickens in the open. The last one we had it was about 4 pm two months ago. I was at least 100 feet away but ran toward it yelling thinking it would take off. The foxes do. Well it decided I was a better catch & skipped the chicken. Crazy. It took me down & bit through my...

    Mystery Deaths

We have mink. They’re weasels and nasty. If your coverage is trees not netting, it’s a perfect place for a hawk (especially a Coopers) to sit and wait.

This is why you should have a covered run

Protected. Well I have thoughts about that one. It’s not easy to shoot a critter in the trees or air. But a contained one? Not so hard. This one probably would have had its last meal.

Mite Treated chickens & coop 2x still no eggs

Yes I know. :) however this happened a while ago even as my other flock of 15 continue laying. They have a separate coop & run. One of our older hens became lethargic. When we thought she was dying we brought her into our kitchen so we could spend time with her. It took her a long time to pass...

Mite Treated chickens & coop 2x still no eggs

I treated 13 hens, cleaned & treated coop WELL (crevices, etc) for possible mites or lice. Can’t confirm. Used permethrin. Followed again about 2 weeks later. Since then I’ve cleaned and treated coop and run again. Have 7 2 yr olds rest 5 years. All were laying. still no eggs. Inspected each...

    Pullets Stopped Laying

O I didn’t know you could have mites like that I thought if they had mites you could see them under their wings. Sounds like we might want to do what you did. What did you spray with? And how did you clean the coop? I’d like to know what condition the coop was in when the hens came back in at night

    Pullets Stopped Laying

Oh and zero mites. Everyone looks great. We’ve examined them all. No weight loss, behavior change,.. as to the pullets, the incumbent hens had stopped laying before they came.

    Pullets Stopped Laying

I have the same problem. None of my flock of 24 are laying. Been like this for maybe 3 - 4 months. No changes, no molting,They free range but 24 chickens are not laying their eggs elsewhere. And I have scoured the property. They are eating layer feed which they have all been on a long time half...
