    most of our eggs are hatching well, but we had one hatch that was bloody and has something pink sticking out of it's rear. I assume this is bad. should I see how he does or should i put him out of his misery now?

    excellent! thanks for the help. 28 eggs total, 6 black copper marans, 14 golden sexed-link/black copper, and the rest are ee/black coppers. I'm so excited to see how these crosses will turn out.

    they are eating start to finish from robinsons feed. i believe it is medicated. They have about a 20 ft. run and can eat whatever is in there (just grass, there are 2 grapevines that grow there but don't have grapes yet) What would i do for cocci?

    thank you all for the wonderful advice. I think we will try again sometime soon. I am just amazed that it is soo complicated and difficult to reproduce a process that happens by itself in nature. I can't figure out how a hen knows to stop turning her eggs on the 18th day??!! That is amazing...

    also all the eggs that formed chicks were in the center of the incubator... i don't know if that is significant. I just shudder at spending 200$ on an incubator for a one time hatch.
