Help sexing Australorps please- 7.5weeks old

Hi everyone, First timer hatching so wanting to check what everyone thinks. I'm completely inexperienced in sexing but not liking the look of my rooster to hen ratio . The white one is an australorp over an isa brown. Hatched 10 out of 12 eggs in an incubator and 1 rooster has already found a...

    September 2016 Hatch-A-Long

I had the incubator set up in a spare ensuite bathroom so that there were 2 doors between it and the cats/dogs. I initially had the brooder in the attached room but only until all the chicks were hatched and dry. The brooder was then moved to the shed. I am using a Brinsea ecoglow 20 but also...

    September 2016 Hatch-A-Long

I had 10/10 eggs hatch that went into lockdown. 2 I had to help as they got stuck zipping. One zipped about a third and stayed like that for over 12 hrs so I carefully removed shell in what would have been the rest of the zip area. The 2nd one I helped had zipped and broke the shell all the way...

Hi, Hoping someone can give me some pointers & tips. I have a chick that has been in the same way for over 12hrs now. It has a fair bit open but hasn't made any more progress. The chick is breathing. 6 chicks have hatched and 4 of these are still in the incubator. When I took the 2 out last...

    September 2016 Hatch-A-Long

That's a great idea Wouldn't be possible for me currently as I have the incubator set up in the ensuite that isn't being used (to keep it safe and away from the dogs and cats). I have my brooder set up in the room attached to it atm but plan on moving the brooder to the shed once all chicks...

Sounds like you will have chicks soon :) I wonder if the temp was up a bit / inaccurate as I have read that can result in early hatches. Hoping your hatch goes well

That's awesome that you have at least one chick I think the 'heavy' eggs were actually just more solid (as in full of chick) but that if you had actually weighed them they would have been lighter. I know what you mean by saying it felt heavier. Its also important to note that if a egg...

    September 2016 Hatch-A-Long

First one to pip hasn't made much more progress but I can see it nudging the membrane/shell that is cracked. The membrane is cracked along the edge. 2nd (on the right) and 3rd to pip (left) 4th to pip (right front egg in photo). Was a bit hard to get a photo of the back eggs So definitely...
