Hi Guys,
I was able to hatch 6 chicks last weekend and this morning I found 1 baby chick dead. This was the smallest of the 6 but it showed no signs of any issue. It was fine when it went to bed last night but just asking for opinions on what may be the cause, besides maybe just being weaker...
It may well be well off, my theory in humidity was around 40-50% during the first 18 days then from lockdown I wanted to see condensation on the lid. As for temperature I wrapped it in towels to make sure the temperature held across the incubator.
Yes that is the one - same settings. Note that it has a lower humidity value, which is good if humidity drops too low - I set this to 35%. It just doesn't have a higher humidity alarm that you can change.
Update late on day 22 - all 6 eggs that I had placed in for lockdown have hatched very successfully with no known issues thus far. I am more than pleased and very surprised I got a 100% hatch rate from the 6 eggs I placed at lockdown. From a cheap eBay type incubator I couldn't really fault the...
After the first pip, another pip appeared lower down the egg and then when this was made it took all of 20 mins for the chick to be out and bustling around.
There are now 2 more pips.
It is only early on day 20 so I am not particular worried at this stage, my gut feeling is that they will hatch late. Everything has been calibrated, but just a gut feeling that they may be on the later side if they hatch.
Update Day 20.
The alarm still drives me crazy and it is hard to get under 69% whilst maintaining good condensation on the lid (which is my barometer). I have noticed 1 egg moving around, this is the top right one and the others have not moved at all. So far no pipping. At this stage if I am to...
Well I am in lockdown - I have taken the trays out, added some wet sponges to the side, filled up the water trays and put a few non slip mats down. The humidity alarm went buzzing straight away over 69% and it beeps, I have managed to bring it down to 69% and keep a good deal of humidity and...
Hi Guys,
I thought I would journal my last days/week of incubation. Today is day 18 of incubating Australorps and I am a first time incubator. Of the 12 eggs I bought from a breeder 5 were infertile and 1 had a blood ring, I am left with 6 I believe healthy and growing looking embryo's. I have...
