My chickens free range on a little less that an acre plot. Most of which is Asphalt, but there are a few orange and lime trees that they love to go under. Unfortunately, my two bird dogs broke out and killed all but two of my precious chickens :[. Now that we've made sure the dogs can't break...
No I do not have a rooster :/. We do have plenty of hawks so I constantly go out to check on them. I put out an old cart thats low to the ground for them to run under just in case. They still don't really go out too much unless I'm out there... and then they just peck at my toes for about 5...
Yesterday we had a lot of yard work to do so we decided to let the chickies out of the coop. It took a couple hours for them to get used to being able to go where ever they want. At first they wouldn't go more than a foot away from the door with out me being there with them. By the end of the...
I have a RIR who wouldn't grow. She ate and drank fine and none of the other birds picked on her. Now she is finally growing, slowly but surely, and is almost fully feathered with the exception of a few spots on her head. I was beginning to think that maybe she was a bantam... but how would I be...
I sure hope that last one is a buff orp she definitely looks/ acts like one. The sweetest girl there is!
Thank you so much for your help! Does the white look to you like its a cockerel or a pullet?
I figured maybe updated pictures would be good
Here is the mystery chick
And now the two buff chicks.
Here is my sex link
And my possibly Buff Orp chick. Let me know what you think she is
If you want more pictures tell me. I just really want to find out what that...
Well, the cockerel in question came as a yellow chick so it really does fit as a sex link cockerel idea but "hes" starting act more like a pullet. It's comb hasn't really developed and its not red yet and so far no wattle. And i read somewhere that if you tilt them forward only females will fan...
He looks exactly like a sex link... If he is in deed a cockerel. But my question is if this whole "only females will fan their tails" thing is true. Cause "he" is all of the sudden doing it and he didn't before.
I am in need of some help! I saw somewhere that if you hold your chicks when they are a little older you can gently tilt them forward and if they fan out their tails they are female and if the don't they are males. Well when I tried this the first time on what I thought were all pullets to begin...
Its interesting that you say that about the white one. I was looking at an interesting way to sex bird with their tail feathers. If they fan when you put them upside down its a hen... Although this one was sexed as a pullet "she" doesn't fan her tail. I dont know how accurate that way of sexing...
When I bought these two at the feed store they told me they were Buff chicks... But now one looks like it may be a Red sex link?
And then form the same feed store i bought two yellow chicks. One is starting to look like a Leghorn (maybe?) but this one started to develop little black spots on...
