Euskal Oiloa ( Basque Thread)

Hi Everyone!

This is my first time posting (and first time having chickens). I've read the whole thread before I had chickens and had more time : ). I have enjoyed all the great info. and was able to sex the chicks all by the second week thanks to the forum.

Brice,
I have 3 cockerels, the oldest is about 7-8 weeks. I purchased mine from ThatBloke. His rooster is quite lovely.

I won't be allowed to keep any since I live in Santa Rosa, where (all chickens) are illegal to have. If you're willing to come get one, it's yours for the taking. : )

Perhaps you'll want to wait a bit to see how they look. Here are the best pics I have with my phone, and I will have to update soon using a better camera.

Second to oldest cockerel is front and center, oldest is way in the back.

In this photo (still not a great photo), the oldest cockerel is to the very left, on the cement.

Welcome to the thread! Your pics are adorable. What beautiful creatures EO's are! Here are three of mine taken last week:

I'm picking up a new pullet on Saturday... Can't wait!

Wow, Meg200000000. How old are your birds? It looks like you borrowed 3 of mine for the photo. :D

Lol! They're 14 weeks. I got them from BYC member ronott1. I'm obsessed with EO's! Best breed ever! How many do you have?

And to the Basque Thread!

Roosters are against the rules for me too. I hide mine in the garage at night. You can also make a Rooster Box --plastic storage container with vents and lined with carpet to muffle the crowing.

It's sad that we can't keep roosters due to bird fighting when the fighters are not stopped by the laws. Only ones hurt are people like us trying to save Heritage Breeds....in my neighborhood the Dogs are much louder all the time.

Come see us on the California Northern Thread!

Mine are 13 weeks. I only have 7, 4 are cockerels. I'm hoping to keep two roosters if they get along.

I am anxious to get them out of my carport and into their mostly finished hoop coop. We spotted a fox in the field the other day, and this morning I saw him in the ferns, poking his head into the yard. Way too close...

That's right, you hatched yours a bit after me? Mahroni's Easter Hatch was so much fun

These will be 14 weeks old tomorrow.

I drove up to the East side of the Coast Range Mountains yesterday and we saw a coyote caught in a snare on the side of the road. Somebody was trying to protect their livestock.

A fox in the ferns would really bug me....

Edited to remove a glaring typo....Ron

Yes, mine are from the Easter hatch, which was lots of fun. Hatched on April 6, which makes mine 13 weeks today!

The fox is definitely on my mind. The chickens were out in their fenced in area and made an alarm call. I think it was because one somehow escaped the fence and couldn't get back in, but I locked them up again anyway.
I am always surprised at how quickly they sense danger (even if it is something not very dangerous, like a house cat). They are aware of the cat way before I see it.
