Why are chicks still all huddled together?

Try using a red lamp, it is supposed to reduce pecking. They may be getting used to their new home and are a little scared, or they could still be to cool. Mine will huddle when I know they are not cold, so it may also be comfort to them.

    Non-Medicated feed..

How many chicks do you have? I used up 50 lbs of medicated in a little over 3 weeks with 25 chicks. I would just keep the non med, and buy some medicated. Some don't use the medicated at all. it's up to you, but I say give them all the help you can. Dennis

    How big can I go?

I agree with Momagain, 7 birds. you could probably squeeze the suggested size to 2 sq ft ea and put in 14, but you are really getting them tight. Think about the ammonia output in a small area. It will not be a healthy coop if you add to many regardless of height.

How much starter for 4 chicks?

I used 50 lbs for 1 month on 25 chicks, so 25lbs should easily get you through

Treats for chicks and Brooder Temperature...

the temp should be 95 for the 1st week and 5 deg less each week. That being said, if they are not staying huddled around,(they are not cuddling they are trying to get warm) then they are ok. Sounds like they need more heat, move the lamp closer or get a warmer bulb. Grit is what grinds there...

For that many chicks, I think you will need at least 30 sq ft, that is about double what you have now. You're ok with what you have for 3 or 4 weeks probably.

Sorry ghostrider, I forgot you asked for help. How bout if you add some wire to the front, so when you drop the face piece you will add vent there? it doesn't need to cover all of it maybe about half. Looks like you could staple it to the inside frame
