Hi everyone. I have 3 Serama chicks that just hatched last night and they have northern red mites. I have sprayed the hen with Poultry Protector but it says not to us on chicks less than 10 days old. What can I do???? I brought them inside to a brooder because two other chicks that hatched...
Yesterday my husband noticed our Millie fleur hen limping. I examined her and found the color of her leg was a light to medium green. I have her in a 3'x4' pen and there was no change today. She doesn't seem to be in any pain only limps pretty badly. What could be the green?
I ordered brooder bottle caps from The Chicken Fountain and will post how they work for week old chicks. They had free shipping on my order! Can't wait to try them out.
The pen is heated and can be heated up to about 85 degrees on the end where the lamp is. Really want the chicks out of the house but don't want to take a chance and make them sick.
We recently built a 12 X 24 raised chicken coop/shed with three 3'x8' grow out pens that have heat lamps on one end of each pen. My question is can I put two week old chicks in a pen when the weather is 28 degrees? Or should I wait until they are older. We built the pens so I could use them...
I have 14 chicks that hatched on Saturday-Monday. Today I noticed that one has diarrhea. Is there anything I can do? Is this something I should be worried about?
The chick only stayed in the container for a couple hours but it was enough time to cause the foot to deform...should have put a piece of rubber mat or paper towel down but I thought the bloody mass would adhere to either the paper or mat. Next time..if there is a next time I will use the paper...
I cut the top half of a quart plastic container and put the chick in it and placed in the brooder with another chick. Hopefully this will allow it to dry as you mentioned and not allow the other chicks to peck at it. Thanks...will update with any improvements.
Is there anything I should do for a chick that hatched with blood attached to the butt? I'm afraid the other hatching chicks will peck at it. HELP...I need advice.
So sorry for you. I just bought a quail drinker and it really works, maybe you could get one for your next hatch.
I have 14 copper maran, 9 americana, 4 buff orpington and 9 cochin in lock down....should hatch Saturday or Sunday...so exciting
