If you're willing to drive to Dawson County, Flowerbh almost always has a broody hen she can add eggs to and will sometimes incubate eggs for others if she has enough in total to fill an incubator. She also has some of the greatest color variations in eggs and lots of naked necks she sells.

Would a hen be able to hatch eggs in any positions other than on their sides? Does anyone know if hatcheries position eggs and if so, how? Good luck with quick sales on your extra chicks!

My guess is that the seller was off by 10% on one and 90% on the other. They look so different that being sex-linked one would be a cockerel and the other a pullet. But since I'm only guessing, I give myself a 50% chance of being wrong.

They almost always will lay in the boxes without any encouragement. There is no need for fake eggs. I occasionally have a lazy bird that just lays wherever she happens to be when she gets the urge instead of making the trip to the nest box.

My friend is always pranking his wife with potatoes, creek rocks, plastic eggs, whatever he can find. She's actually been fooled a few times. Don't worry though, he's in Georgia, not Texas.
