Hi. I have a new Hova Bator. I’m a little confused about how the turner works. We set our eggs today. I had more than 42. Have you ever placed more than 42 chicken eggs? Also, the turner seems to be moving the eggs in all sorts of directions, and not keeping them perfectly in line. I don’t want...
I recently purchased a “Rarest of Rare” special from McMurray hatchery. I received 32 baby chicks, and have identified all but a few. These are the best pics that I have right now, but I can get more if that would help. I am leaning towards Sicilian buttercup for the brown one, but not 100%...
I thought so, too. It is early, but I can't believe how #1 can't be happy in the brooder. Keeping "him" separate is sad for "him", but I worry about my 7 week old EE's when I can't be there to mediate. I have a home for him, if he is a roo. He would be happier. Thank you!!!
We hatched these babies two weeks ago. They are french black copper marans. We love them, but #1 does not play well with the week old EE girls, and cannot be left alone in the brooder with them. I have a two year old flock, but they are not marans. I cannot keep a roo, and am leaning towards...
Today is day 21 for our little maran eggs. Last night, one of them shook and rolled quite a way in the incubator. It hasn't moved very much since. Before that, it was shaking quite a bit. Could the rolling have possibly killed it? Or is it ok for the eggs to roll? Is it ok to candle on...
Today is lock down day for our eggs. I have tried to raise humidity using the water channels with no luck. So, I put folded wet washcloths inside the incubator in each corner. This did the trick, raising the humidity to 64%. My question is- are the washcloths dangerous for the hatching...
So, as I read this, it seems that the air cell can be manipulated? My son put our eggs back into the incubator upside down yesterday (day 13), and I just found today. I turned them correctly hoping that all would readjust. We have an automatic turner. Great information here!!
I was concerned with the amount of air being reduced in small end, but was hoping that the little fellas would scoot back down where they belong so that more air would be available.... if it wasn't too late.. Thank you!
Yesterday, after candling our four maran eggs, my son returned them to the incubator upside down. They are in an incubator with an automatic turner. I discovered this today, and candled again to see that the air pocket was in the small end, and returned them to their proper position. Is the...
