Coturnix quail sexing and color variety

Oh How awesome, thank you so so much for your reply! That was wonderful :). I do have quite a bit more babies I didn’t picture, as I didn’t want to overwhelm the thread with too many photos. Sounds like I may have more color variants than I thought :)). I was assuming the dark brown ones were...

Coturnix quail sexing and color variety

Hi everyone, I hatched my first batch of coturnix quail eggs about 2 1/2 weeks ago and am wondering if you have any opinions on gender and color variety these babies might be. I have heard it is easy to sex them at or around three weeks (especially the pharaoh) typically due to their feathering...

    Those island red going broody?

I have a young Rhode Island Red who just started laying about 1 month ago. It is going into the cold season here and whenever I go down to the nesting boxes and she is in there she screeches like crazy fluffs her feathers and snaps at me if I reach near her... Is this just normal behavior for...

    Barred Rock hen..... rooster feathers?

I have 15 chickens that are 4 months old, 2 obvious roosters and the rest hens.... I have had no doubts other than these tail feathers... Can hens have a tail feather like this? My 2 roosters are crowing with huge wattles and combs and tail feathers and are the same age as this "hen". It squats...

    Young polish rooster dying

Thank you so much for your support. He is still sitting but when I lift the tuna and other food to him he has a generous appetite. When I very first noticed his symptoms I felt his crop and it did feel empty, so and seeing that he does get picked on by the flock with his crest feathers pulled...

    Young polish rooster dying

Thank you so much for responding. I do have him separated, I gave him some vitamin B. Getting tuna together now. I'm so worried... What on earth would I do if it was mareks and how would I know? Would I have to get rid of my entire flock of chickens... I have 26. I read about the disease, I just...

    Young polish rooster dying

I have a 3 month old white crest black polish, who has been healthy and sweet since day 1. He is with 20 other chickens that all have been healthy as well and I see none of them having symptoms like him. I went to the run today and saw him leaning back on his tail almost like he is sitting on...

Easter egger gender guesses... Still very young

So.... I know this little one is still too young to make any real accurate guesses... But this is my friend's first batch of chicks and she has been asking me a lot about this one in particular and just sent me these pics. She said it is already squatting down and rocking it's head back and...

Is this a Rooster or a Hen?

Ya I can see a small difference in tail feather size but they look exactly like my hens chi chi and Sofia :) and I've been unlucky enough to get 6 Americauna Roos out of my chicks the past year that were supposably pullets... They were very easy to call out compared to other breeds I've had...

Is this a Rooster or a Hen?

Looks like a pullet to me! All my americauna roosters developed very red combs very early and had much larger tail feathers. :)
