I name them names I like that seem to suit them. My neighbor named my BO Buffy, my niece named one of the EEs Zelda. The rest I named, Siobhan and Sinead the Australorps, Mauve and Prudence the BRs, Wynona the GLW, Aileen EE, Bernadette the cuckoo Marans, and Snooki the JG.
I have 1 BO in northern Illinois, she does ok in the heat and is a doll. My cuckoo Marans is a Mama’s girl, sweet, shy, close to laying. Frostbite risks mean I would lean Marans. I have no Roos.
I’m nervous because my current flock is about 24 weeks old and except for the cuckoo Marans and Jersey Giant who are a bit younger, I have some bitchy girls. They scare the Marans but never more than a peck, I swear that bird is the biggest Mama’s girl.

My two neighbors who know about them love the girls and visit them with treats. Since they are 15 feet from being legal no one else knows about them. Thank goodness for a tall house to block sound.
