    Australorps v.s. Buff Orlingtons

Love our Buff Orpingtons! We only have 2 but both are cherished. Both know their names and one will come running if we call her name. They do go broody more than the other breeds but make excellent mothers if you are so inclined to get fertilized eggs . Only Rhode Islands I have known have been...

RATTLE SOUND IN HEN - please advise!

Before today the rattling was going during the day. When I posted, I was so deeply worried about it and wasnt sure if I was treating her correctly. Today she didnt rattle unless we held her. So that must be stress induced ( increased breathing and heart rate?). She has never been the snuggly...

RATTLE SOUND IN HEN - please advise!

She rattles all the time but louder when held. Crop was empty when I checked yesterday morning but didnt check this morning as I overslept and husband fed them. She is eating okay. Last known egg was Thursday but all if our hens have slowed down for winter, except our 2 pullets. I will feel...

RATTLE SOUND IN HEN - please advise!

Hello chicken friends. This is Dottie. She started off with sneezing a few days back. Her sister Viola has some wheezing. Both are in a quarantine pen and regular coop has been completely sanitized and bedding replaced. She is not lethargic, no discharge, eating a touch less than normal but...

    Leghorn or meat bird?

It is NOT a meat bird. Legs are short but too skinny for a meat bird. I agree. White plymouth Rock

What type of chicken is this? It is really large.

Beyond a shadow of a doubt! Gorgeous saddle feathers! Not all roosters have spurs or grow them quickly. We have a handsome rooster who has 1/4" spurs at this point but DEFINATELY a roo. Lots of fertilized eggs to prove it!

    DUMPED ROOSTER KALAMAZOO MI

This handsome boy showed up a few days ago in the woods behind our fenced chicken yard. We finally caught him today. His feet are a MESS! And I suspect other injuries. He is TERRIFIED of the sound of a car. We cannot keep him as we have a happy, healthy, one rooster flock. We have him in a...

    Light for Coop?

We purchased a stick up light from walmart, but not for eggs. Our hens laid happily through our Michigan winter last year. I found that when their egg count dropped, it would increase if I supplemented protein for a few days. Scrambled eggs, shredded meat, meslworms.. they were happy and so were...

    What happened?

If she is calm enough, some ice in a washcloth, while being snuggled, might bring down the swelling. Adding electrolytes to her water might help prevent shock. I agree with the roos. Separate all but the one you plan on keeping ASAP!
