Mine hatched July 8. I started finding eggs at the end of December. I think all 6 of my gals are laying, now, sunce I find 3-4 eggs each day (and, I do mean find. Their favorite nest is under my house...). So, I would say you are getting close!
I picked up 6 ducklings at a feed store a couplw of days ago. I chose 4 black ducklings. Are they likely cayugas? Someone told me she had a rouen duckling this dark, but these guys are solid black, and don't stand like runners, so I am left thinking they must be cayugas. I think the other 2 are...
There used to be a gang of 5 or so that roosted lower than the others. I used to go drag them all down every night . & put them into their coop. I gave up on that over a month ago. They roost too high for me to reach anymore, anyway.
My highest roost in the coop I built for them is only about 3 feet up. :/ I have considered putting the coop on stilts, haha. Hoping they decide my soon to be new goat shelter is better than a tree. They roost 20-30 feet up!
Red, YES. I have one guy who has been going off between 10-12 the last few nights in row. Mine roost in the trees (yet to solve that one), as well, so it freaks me out every time I hear crowing at night.
<3 Goa! Sweet mama.
I didn't mean to be away so long! I hope everyone's chickies are doing well. :)
I lost my first Icelandic 3 days ago. I don't know what happened. I saw a rooster on her, and she didn't get back up, so I went to see her & she just laid there. I picked her up, and she was...
I built the coop just for them, and only them. They want none of it. Haha
i keep all my non-icelandics penned, and they have a separate coop. The last rain wd had, they roosted on top of my grow out pen (where they used to be kept, but have outgrown - hence new coop built). I caught them all...
This comment is about a week late, but I ordered from Whipporwill Farms and was very pleased. I ordered 12, was sent 18, 17 of which arrived in great exterior shape, and hatched 13! Great diversity! From WI to SC. I ordered from the other seller I see pretty often on ebay, too. Ordered 6...
I just generally like to buy locally, and to not enourage potentially poor breeding/keeping practices. I feel like with ebay, you don't really know what you are getting & from what conditions.May be great, may be not. ;)
I have no idea what color this one is. I have only seen the one tolbunt...
We're having this conversation on the Upstate SC Poultry facebook group. So far, not having great luck on the affordable organic/no-spray feed front. Best price around seems to be Reedy Fork organic from the grain loft in greer. They have drop off points all around the area once a month. But...
She was pushed off the nest & the egg was badly cracked this morning. Here's the kicker -- THE EGG WAS FERTILE (right? I'm no egg expert, but that looks like a huge bullseye to me. It was set on about 18 hours, I guess)! My oldest cockerel is 15 weeks old! Call MTV now.
