I just have a hen and a rooster at the moment. I am wanting to add to my flock (well make it a flock). What is the best type of hen to get large eggs? My cousin has some Welsummers and those seem to be nice eggs. I am getting the eggs for my grandma or I would go for cute chickens she likes...
I just had to share him/her. He was the only one that hatched out of my 4 eggs, and he thinks I am momma. He hatched on Sunday and jumps into my hand and cuddles, nibbles at me and tolerates my 3 year old daughters screeches when she gets to pet him. (mini meal worms are the key) also the...
I waited 48 hours after the pip he had made no progress. I peeled the shell back from the outer membrane and he went to town. I had trouble keeping my humidity up an I believe this was the problem. For the most part he hatched him self and is doing great now. Other than the fact that he is...
My one and only wood duck egg pipped over 24 hours ago and has made no more progress. Should I pull back some of the loose shell to help him out a little. I remember with my last hatch I had to help a couple out. I don't want to wait to long.....
What to do????
I just have a regular lg. But i have never had any problems with getting my humidity up. I am wondering if I should move it up from the basement. We are in a new house this year and I thought that the basement would be the best area considering it stays pretty constant in temp down there...
I have gone into lockdown with my wood duck eggs, and I can't get the humidity above 60%. I have a wet sponge in there and the vent holes plugged. What else can I do. I lost one egg that should have hatched this weekend and I think it was do to this. What can I do?
They have a kiddie pool that gets cleaned daily in addition to the regular water. I use a good food and have seen the males and females in the pool together. Maybe I am missing some kind of nutrient. I will look into that thanks for all the help
I have 5 males and 7 females. I can't believe that all 5 would not be producing sperm. All of the birds are on their second year laying and I have different blood lines. So there is no inbreeding. I am just stumped as to what to do........
They wern't shipped. They are from my woodie pen. They only laid 4 eggs last year and I had the same result.
I have collected 6 more so I am going to give it another round.
They have all that they need to breed. Fresh water, food, nest boxes so I don't know why they are ending up infertile...
I had put 4 eggs in the bator and waited well over 2 weeks. I candled them a couple of times and no veins. So after the 2 weeks. I took them out and cracked them open to see what was going on. How do I tell if they were even fertile????
There were no veins just yolk. Any thoughts would help...
My wood ducks have finally started laying. There are 2 eggs in 1 box and 3 in the other. Should I wait till they are done laying or collect.the eggs everyday? I don't want to stop the laying process. What do I do?
