I have the mommy and three babies in a large metal cage off ground, outside. It is half covered with a tarp and has straw at bottom. Should i pile in the straw and coat the edges so no cold gets in the holes? Will she be enough to keep them warm?
I could bring them inside...but I have like...
Thanks for your reply, but after five minutes of posting this thread, my chick went into spasms and died. I have no idea what happened. It was fast. I even think the poor thing was hallucinating before it went. :(
UPDATE: Chick is acting 'out of it' it acts like it's trying to sit up and having trouble. Eyes open but they aren't looking at anything, they look odd. Please someone help?
Everybody was fine yesterday and I noticed today that one of my chicks wasn't out and about. I went to the coop and at first I thought it was dead. However when I picked it up it peeped so that was a relief.
I fed it sugar water with some tetracycline by spoon earlier (5 min ago) and it...
Don't worry! I finally got her/him eating and stuff! :D What i did was I gave the little guy some scrambled eggs, which chickens go ga ga for lol because someone suggested it and it also had protein. It is currently night of day 5 and my fluffy thing is eating and drinking alot, and peeping...
Yeah mine already had chicks, week old, and this egg was mega late. I had to help hatch it, mom stepped on it, and it broke and she was kicking all sorts of stuff eveywhere.
Day one it did the fall asleep and wake up fast thing. Just like wcah said.
I put a snoopy slipper in there and it...
It seems too busy peeping to eat, i put some water in a check piece and held it up to its' face but the little one ignores it. It seems to like burying it's head into my palm.
I have it inside in a cat carrier, with a towel and heating pad. I dont' have a brooder lamp and I can't put it anywhere outside the carrier because we have more than ten bird hunting cats.
The mom tried to kill it, very badly seemed to want to. We had to help it hatch two days back because...
I just had to intervene, the hen pecked at the egg and broke it open and there was some blood. The chick is active now, I just put it under mother hen several minutes back. I hope it makes it. We cut the cord, it was white, not red, so I think it should be okay. It's peeping and it...
:D Thanks.
Yeah, one I found dead in its shell, the mom must have cracked it open or something, it looked really frail so it probably died in development. Yeah, I currently have 3 fluffy little cuties. One looks like a baby OEB, the one is dark brown on head and black and grey on rest of...
