    Males, females or both?

We have done that already...and I can't tell the difference. When we pick one up...they all start quacking & I can't hear if there is a difference

    Males, females or both?

These are photos of our 3 Pekin Ducks. They are 2 months old. I've tried sexing them (was told to listen to the quack, look at tail feathers, the breast) but I'm still not sure. If I have all males, I plan on selling 2 of them...and getting 2 females in place of the males ASAP (I want duck...

    Rescued wild partridge eggs

So a few days ago, my husband was cleaning out some bushes near my lilacs & came across a nest with 11 partridge eggs. He didn't disturb it. For days we watched as mama partridge flew in & out of the nest...and sit on the eggs. Well this morning when I went out to let my chickens out of the...

    Processing at 13 weeks?

They are Actually Small for being 9 weeks old. I have shown them to Friends of mine that have been raising meat hens for years...and even they said they seem small. They said its because I mostly free range them. They will be no where near Turkey size by 13 weeks....I've raised turkeys.

    Processing at 13 weeks?

I have meat kings that are scheduled for processing next week..when they will be 10 weeks old. The issue is, they aren't really that big. They are mostly free range, but also get the suggested amount of feed..and drink tons of water. I'd like to keep them a little longer to plump them up...but...

    EE attacked by a dog

I had something similar happen today to one of my hens. They were free ranging on the lawn...and I believe my dog attacked her (I can't be sure because I didn't see it happen). The wound is on her backside....and her tail feathers are pretty much gone. She is limping...though I haven't noticed...

Dog Crate for Grow Out Pen?

I will also be doing a similar thing. I am getting baby chick's this week...and when they are old enough to go into the coop with my mature hens, I'm going to use a dog crate in the coop, so they can interact with the older hens without being picked on.

    My order is in!

So excited! Just put my order in for my Spring chicks! I'm getting 2 Delaware, 2 Ameraucana, and 2 Barred Rock for the end of April. And in May I have 3 RIR's & 2 ducklings will be joining the 'farm family'. We have hens now, so hopefully when it comes time to add in the newcomers, my ladies...

    Canadian Ontario Hatchery?

I kinda had the same question. I'm in New Brunswick, and looking for a hatchery that mails all over Canada. There is a feed store that sells day old chicks in May, but there are only 2 breeds to choose from! I want Silkie Bantam chicks this Spring, and haven't had any luck on finding them...

So sorry to hear about your farm and loving animals....my heart is breaking for you and your family. I am also in NB. (a town called Perth-Andover) I always love looking at the photos of your little farm (I also have one, but on a smaller scale) Hoping for better times ahead for you and your...

Putting a chick brooder in the chicken coop?? Advice and Photos please!!

I have built a brooder before {last spring} but it was out of cardboard, and I thought that might not be strong enough to protect the babies from the already mature hens. I have RIR's that can be very nasty....so I wanted something strong, but also something see through so the hens can see the...

Putting a chick brooder in the chicken coop?? Advice and Photos please!!

I want to get some more chick's this spring, but do not want to have chick's in the house again since we are expecting a baby this summer (so I would like my house to be as clean as possible!!) We have a small flock of RIR's, and a pretty large coop in our barn. We have electric hook up in...
