    M I Crooked Letter Crooked Letter...ahh, nevermind....Mississippi

My chickens free range out here in the sticks. I put the normal ant poison on the fire ant mounds. The chickens have never been harmed by it. Does that help you?

Layer pellets & scratch?? Less eggs or more?

My pullets are all true free range birds. They scratch and look for bugs and worms, They eat some grass and nibble some of my flowers, but they also get free choice laying pellets in the lovely chicken house I busted my butt to make for them. But I also a give them almost a pint of scratch...

Comment by 'LizStreithorst' in article 'Egg failure to hatch - Diagnosing incubation problems'

Thank you for the excellent information. I'm hatching my first incubator eggs from two breed that I am very attracted to. They were expensive. I didn't know how much could go wrong during incubation. I'll be candling my eggs for the second time this evening when it's darker. It will be day...

    Fish Thread

I'm actually a fish breeder. I have a 20' X 20' fish room filled with fish. I have Discus, Bristlenose Plecos, Dutch Blue Rams., Jet Black Rams, and Electric Blue Rams., as well as a 125 display tank full of various Rainbow fish and a 30 gallon with red fresh water fish. I may be able to...

Victor or victim who for dinner?

Can't you keep one or the other in a cage for a week and see what happens before you decide? I love duck as a meal but all I can get where I live is frozen solid and called mature duck. I tried it, but it was good for nothing but stock. Even cooking it low and slow it was tough.

    They just arrived!

Y'all sure are nice. Everyone remembers how exciting the first time was. Nobody said an unkind word about me being so unsure of myself. I know about candling the eggs and I have a close neighbor who will help me interpret what I see. She's the one who loaned me the incubator.

    They just arrived!

It doesn't matter. I went to rescue the egg and another dog was carrying around in her mouth. She's an egg stealer and the reason I need to build raised nests to the outside of my hen house before these eggs turn into layers. I can do carpentry, but not well.

    They just arrived!

I gave it to one of the dogs but he didn't eat it. It's still on the living room floor. I don't have wax but it's just a surface spider web crack. Is it worth giving it a try? How will I know if it starts to rot? will it bleed stuff from the crack? I sure don't want it to blow up on all...

    They just arrived!

I'm a first timer at hatching my own so I'm pumped. One arrived with a crack but the lady sent 4 extras! I have them in cardboard egg cartons for a few days before I put them in the incubator my borrowed incubator. my Bielefelder eggs will arrive tomorrow. I'm going to have a ton of chicks...

    Need assurance

I might be silly but I've never hatched eggs before and I want not to fail. My neighbor loaned me an incubator. It's a still air Little Giant with an egg turner. I have the thermostat set at 101. with the probe taped the top of the unit. Is that where I should have it taped? I will test it...

Can I raise a turkey with no other turkeys

Thanks for the reply. It would have been lovely to have a couple of Toms around strutting their stuff, but not if they're likely to harm my chicken hens.

Can I raise a turkey with no other turkeys

could I keep only 2 Toms and no hens? I would like Royal Palms. They are only available as straight run so I wanted to keep 2 males and eat the females. I currently have 24 Light Brahmas. I will raise the turkey chicks separately but would like to let them free range during the day like I do...

    Is this unusual?

    Is this unusual?

When I feed them their daily treat of scratch and live meal worms I put her outside to eat with them. They don't share food well, but she gets some of it before one of them turns on her or the rooster nails her. She doesn't like the rooster but he doesn't frighten her as much as the mean hens...
