This is my Polish x Orpington Rooster - he is almost 4 months old. I love the rust cored feathers popping through the black crest. He is starting to crow and it sounds like a squeaker toy that is broken. He loves being talked to and will talk back.

They have more than 12” each - I very carefully researched the coop setup before building. I am in the Sacramento CA area. No snow. I will add a region - thanks for the tip!

    Where to sleep??

Yes, the ramp is up on a block Adding more cleats is a great idea - thanks! Lots of light and ventilation. It will be 14 birds once my friend takes hers - right now they are small (oldest is 9 weeks). They have A LOT of roosting space and access to the outdoor enclosure which is huge. There...

    Where to sleep??

I am new to chickens - got my chicks at 1-2 weeks old - they are now 8-9 weeks old. There are 22 of them (7 are my friends and will be going to her house soon). We just moved them into their coop house with attached outdoor space - this is their 3rd night. The ramp up to the indoors is a bit...

    Silkie - ?? Rooster

From what I have read it is very hard to determine Silkie sex until several months old. I have 2 silkies - one is aprox 6 weeks, the other aprox 7. The 7 week old one has a much more pronounced comb and waddles. Is that something you would see this early as an indication it is a Rooster in a...

    Odd looking comb

    Odd looking comb

Updated pics. The one in question - which, I agree, seems like a cockerel - and one of the others from the same batch. It’s a shame I can’t keep a Roo - he is gorgeous!!
