    4 Month mystery bird, hen or rooster?!?!

    Thanks everybody, I had a feeling from day one it was a cockerel. Luckily I know where this individual lives and he told me I could bring it back if it turned out to be a roo. Not sure if he was trying to pull a fast one or just ignorant, he seemed pretty new to chickens as well. Thanks again!

    Thanks everyone. There are so many dogs in my neighborhood, who knows who the culprit could be. I guess my next door neighbor's black labs are the prime suspects. Here's a pic of the newbies I got to keep the soul survivor company.

    The guy I bought her from said she was a wyandotte, but the more pix I look at online the more he/she looks like a white rock.

    what are the names of your chickens?

    We have four hens. Willamay (RIR) Loretta Lynn (RIR) Whitey (EE) Rooster(EE) we were sure she was a he and by the time we realized otherwise the name had all ready stuck.

    Wire mesh on Coop Run floor to keep out nasty chicken eaters?

    I'm no expert, but that's pretty much what I did. Wrapped the whole run with hardware cloth including the floor of the run. I just covered it with some dirt and it doesn't seem to bother them. Haven't had any problems with predators, but I wouldn't consider my half acre to be in the country...

    Sounds like we're in the same boat. My 2 EE's are 29 wks have had red coloring for a month or more and I'm still waiting. It's a little embarrassing, I have had more than one dream of finding blue eggs in the nest box only to wake up and realize I'm still waiting At least my other 2 girls...

    Post your FIRST EGG pics!

    Finally got an egg from one of our 4 EE's they are 28 wks. Wasn't green, but we still got 3 more chances. Medium, not bad for a first try.
