My old Great Pyrenees (RIP) was terrified of fireworks. She'd hide, quivering, in the bath tub of an interior bathroom. I'd place a large towel over her head and it seemed to help. Best wishes for calming your little one.
Breeding can be such a crap shoot can't it? I wonder if there's any demand for Showgirl crosses? I'm not looking to make money but want to know I can place any offspring.
Aha I didn't know that, very helpful.
So if I have this right, naked neck is a dominate gene? If N stands for the naked neck gene and n stands for non-naked neck, then homozygous is NN and heterozygous is Nn (or nN)? How helpful of nature to advertise the heterozygous type!
That is one pretty...
I saw a gorgeous Showgirl roo at a local swap meet over a month ago. This bird was calico looking with a fair amount of white, hard for me to describe. I can't get him out of my mind.
There's another swap coming up this weekend and I may be able to get him. I have 8 (mostly) heritage breed...
Could you tell me what a BA is? I'm not aware what some of the abbreviations are and haven't found a page that explains them. The pink eggs intrigue me. I was surprised to find definitely pinkish eggs in my nest boxes and finally traced them to my Brahmas.
They snuggled right up to Martha who likes them. Maybe she's thinking they're her chicks?
All the vet said about her birth defect that it was "cerebellar dysfunction" and nothing could be done.
I read somewhere that an 81 mg aspirin dissolved in a pt of water would reduce her pain & swelling...
I do have photos but haven't figured out how to post them from my camera/computer. Don't have a smartphone.
Martha survived. A few weeks later, she was ready to go outside. As you wisely suggested, we didn't put her back in with the others. Luckily we had an unoccupied coop and small, fenced...
Our neurologically impaired Buff Orpington, Martha, was found on her back with one leg sticking up. We thought she was dead and her head was all bloody, eyes swollen shut and it looked like she'd been scalped. While looking at her in shock, Elizabeth Easter Egger attacked her. Our 9 girls turned...
Our nine 13 w/o pullets are now in an outside hen house/run combo. Like many of them, there's a ramp that leads up to the hen house. We figured we'd probably have to pick up Martha Orpington every night and put her in, then take her out in the morning. The unfortunate girl has some sort of...
I appreciate your sympathy and fellow feeling.
The helpful article you referenced is informative but also frightening. Her symptoms seem more like Epidemic Tremor that any of the others and I sure hope she doesn't have it. I just feel so bad for the poor little girl.
