Inside our duck house we use Trex decking. It is expensive but we can easily spray the pine shavings down and the poop goes thru the spaces of the boards. When it gets smelly we spray vinagar then house and odor, flying pests and ants are gone. We also use it for our ramps to the house and the...
Our duckhouse is pretty big. It is not a perfect rectangle because we put it between a shed and a angled fence but for 12 they have plenty of room. It has 3 rooms. It goes from 5.5ft to 7ft wide, 13ft to 15ft long and with the slanted roof that raises up (includes part of the side wall) 5ft to...
I have 12 Pekins. 5 drakes and 7 girls. All but one older girl (whom taught them bad behaviours) are 8 months old. My drakes are in "jail" until my girls necks heal. 4 have been together going for 1 slutty girl who has scabs healing, 2 somewhat regular with some scabs and 2 once in a while. I...
I had Calla Lillies but the ducks ate them. I have had to block them off from my Canna Lillies and Elephant Ears but they try to sneak in on windy days since that makes my temporary fence weaken. They even ate the lower branches of my Showtime Azaleas at first but they must have discovered that...
Mine are in a fenced in yard but they stay in a tight group and have hiding areas. We will eventually have a run built to put them in as the evening approaches.
Mine like to go in a few hours after dark. Tonight all 12 were in their house when I got home around 11pm. By the time I got to the back yard two of them were just outside of it and they seen me and headed up their ramp so I shut their door. Last night they protested in a March around the pool...
I was going to switch to that 20% All Flock but I read that 20% is too high for drakes (mine are not meat birds). Do they grow much bigger on it? My boys are huge enough and have already began injuring my gals. I am struggling on the food decision and honestly my gals aren't eating the oyster...
I had previously posted concerns about blue spots on a duck and a couple of you said they were just sun spots. I wanted to show how dark these spots have become to be sure it isn't something to worry about. My husband was concerned it is mildew but they don't wash off.
I use a light layer of pine shavings that the poop is sprayed out daily and the ducks don't seam to be creating any nest with them.
We had 4 eggs today so someone else may be starting to lay. All healthy yet poopy looking.
