Unfortunately, she died. Giving the rest of the electrolyte solution to the others ( still in bottle, uncontaminated) it is in the high 90s here in Alabama today. Sad.
I have a young hen with this same problem! I figured it was the heat, and have brought her into the garage where it is cool and she has her own food and water. Started searching for what could be wrong with her and think it is simple dehydration. Thanks for posting, now perhaps we can save her.
Thanks everybody! I happen to have a huge dog pen that we just barely squeezed into the chicken pen. The littles can go in and out as they please, and they have their own food and water. Brilliant! The guineas have not been much of a problem, just louder than usual. :) Thanks so much everyone!
Happy chickening to you all!
We have 6 week old pullets that I feel are ready to be integrated with our established flock. Our flock is all adult hens, 2 austrolorp, one dominique and one polish with one polish rooster. We just downsized our flock at the auction, we used to have so many more...
Thanks RJSorensen! I wish my henhouse was 500 square feet, that is the coop area that is fenced on all sides and on top... It is bigger than my first apartment for sure!! :) The henhouse itself is only about 16 square feet :(
I think you are right, should be ok to let them into their old coop...
Hi there! Hope all the chickens are well tonight!
We are in the process of building a new coop area. I know that once the chickens transition to their new coop the old coop will be ripe with growth... Our plan is to let the coop lay fallow for a year and then transition the flock back over...
thanks triple willow! I will watch out for the king snake, we definitely have some of those. I am seriously considering relocating the non-vipers, but the jury is still out. I would definitely relocate a snake-eating snake, though!
:)
WOW, thanks so much for posting this! I got so excited that I ran to the basement and started building some traps. Luckily, we have everything needed to build a few of these traps.
For about a month I noticed that my egg production was waaay down and wondered: is it the Alabama heat? Are the...
Thanks for this thread! I have two broody hens and I am allowing them to sit on their eggs starting tomorrow. I have been worried about how the chicks will get down, and now I can rest a little easier!! These will be our first natural hatched chicks, and I am so EGGcited!!
Thanks Wyandottes7! I tend to agree!! I wonder if she is mixed with Dominique? She is best friends with our Dominique rooster and they came from the same farm.
Hi there,
Here is a photo of Goldie, our mystery chicken. She is about 5 months old and very petite. Nice personality, never aggressive with any other hens. Beautiful golden color with dark-brown (maybe black) feathering on wing tips and tail tips.
Any ideas on the breed? Some type of...
Thanks TTracy! I guess I am being impatient regarding the eggs. Cuddles is our only snuggle chicken... all the others like to be close, but they don't want to be touched or picked up at all.
I will give Cuddles some extra time today!
Hi all,
This site is great! I usually find the information that I need without having to post.
We are a new chicken family, our oldest hens are 7 months old. We now also have 1 hen and 1 rooster that are 4-5 months old as well as an "elderly" white hen and four youngsters that are 3-4...
