    Tough membrane

Hi! we have 4 silkie hens, and one polish bantam, one d'uccle and one lavender ameraucana, the last 3 are all the same age. The green Ameraucana eggs all have a membrane so tough it doesn't break on the side of a pan, the shell will break off and I have to stab the membrane with my thumb. They...

    Bump on hen's head?

This is so weird, I picked her up today and now the thing looks all shriveled up. I can't say for the before picture, but it feels hard to the touch now. I am thinking now it might be some kind of follicle infection but i just want to make sure its not something worse because we're sort of new...

    Bump on hen's head?

Our 2 year old hen Lil Peep has this bump on the back of her neck that looks like some sort of cyst. We noticed a small lump under her feathers over 6 months ago but she was never lethargic or anything so we never bothered to get a good look at it. My family says her weight has pretty much been...

It sure is cute but I wonder why they wouldn't see a coop as safe... they must not think it could be any safer than the run itself

    Silkies ground roosting???

Thanks for the reply! The coop is 4 x 3 ft To be clear, I need to lock all 4 silkies in this coop for two full weeks without ever letting them out? what about changing bedding? It kinda seems like a dark, tight space for so many birds (even though they're small) for such a long time!

    Silkies ground roosting???

So we have 7 chickens about 6 months old that we keep in a protected run most of the time (bc raccoons + hawks). We have hardware cloth wrapped around all sides and bottom. The 3 standard chickens sleep in their coop no problem, but we have a separate coop for the 4 silkies. From NIGHT 1 they...

    Hey!

Thanks all! The person I got the chick from gave it to us free if we could save it. it had a bad head injury from bullies in the brooder and couldn't feed itself. I fed it through a dropper but it sadly died. As first time chicken owners this left everyone shaken up a bit! My dad buried it in a...

    Hey!

Hello! New here! I'll just go ahead and use this template... (1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? Yes! about 5 months ago. I had always wanted chickens so my family decided to get some and now everyone adores them. (2) How many chickens do you have right now? 7...
